We had a bear of a time getting out of our ice covered driveway even with 4 wheel drive. We must go down a hill then up a hill on to the road and because of the ice we just pray no cars are coming as we need to make a run for it. Hauling the trailer was pretty bad, the weight of the trailer was pushing the truck sideways and I came very close to having the trailer go off the road into the deep ravine. Unfortunately there is a deep ravine on BOTH sides of the drive down at the bottom of the hill before heading up. Thankfully no car was coming and I made it onto the hard road and off the ice at least for a little bit. We hit one more bad spot and the trailer slid right off the road on to the shoulder which pulled the truck off. It took a few hairy moments to get it under control and back on the road.
Rhoda picked up Maddi then met me in Morton where we left her car and the three of us finished the trip to Springfield with no other problems. We were able to back the trailer into the aisle all the way to the back of the barn in the far corner where our 10 stalls are. Our stalls are in the absolute worst place in the barn. What is funny is when we asked for a special area so we could pop the popcorn and make cotton candy the man in charge said it would be no problem to accommodate us. We will make do. Hopefully the smell of hot buttered popcorn will bring people to our stalls but when I see the man in charge tomorrow I'm going to ask "why" and show him why where he stuck us is so unsuitable.
The three of us had everything unloaded, the stalls bedded with pellets, 2 water buckets hung in each stall and hay in each stall. The other 19 bales were nicely stacked in our feed and tack stall. We almost finished the decorations but ran into a small problem with one of our runners about 3 feet to small. We brought home more material and Karin helped make another runner which will be taken down to the fair tomorrow when we trailer down the horses.
When I arrived home from Springfield the truck even with 4 wheel drive on just couldn't make it up one of the drives, the ice is just to thick and slick. The other drive is not quite as steep but even that drive was awful. Emily took the skid steer over it trying to break up the ice, then Mike took the big John Deere tractor and scraped up ice, digging into the drive to try to give us some traction for tomorrow. There is no way we want to haul horses out on the ice. Karin was in the stall barn cleaning the stalls and commented that Star's filly is really much more beautiful than the 2 pictures I took this morning. Mom thinks I should get up early tomorrow, take decent pictures, remove the 2 newborn pictures and post the day old pictures. The filly really is very pretty.
Mom, Diane and I drove to church together. The guys all had a town meeting on annexation.
