Snowpocalypse

The snow started during the night and when we awoke it didn't look that bad outside. Mark started shoveling right after breakfast.
These pictures were taken around 7:30 am.
The skid steer was taken out as soon as the patio was done.
As I was walking over to shovel mom's driveway Irish came running down to say hello. That is Jenis behind her.
Looking up toward the barn are Indy, Rosalie and Ayanna.  It was 29 degrees outside and the mares are well insulated. The snow on their back wasn't melting at all. They could have gone into the shelter but were perfectly content to be outside.
Spark brought mom's Kubota to help Mark with the plowing.

After mom's drive and side walks were done I went in to visit and enjoyed watching the birds feed.

We quit shoveling around 10:00 am.
Around noon Mark started shoveling again. The snow had been coming down so fast that it looked like we hadn't done much of anything this morning.
The next three pictures were taken around noon.

At 3:00 pm I hiked back over to mom's to clean off her drive again while Mark was using the skid steer.  Spark came over again with mom's Kubota but by this time the drives were too slick to use that machine and even the skid steer wasn't getting the traction needed. Joan had to go get the big Kubota tractor to pull out first Rebekah, then Hannah and then her car.  The snow was falling so fast and so thick the drives were almost impassible and very very slick.  Mark pulled out the new little Kubota to open up the drives again.
I finished mom's drive and sidewalks and was walking back and even though I was wearing my big boots slid and fell. No problem the snow is soft to land in so I climbed back up and started walking home again and this time walking slowly and carefully but hit an icy spot and down I went for the second time. This time I just rolled on my back and was comfortable enough just decided to rest a bit. I was pretty tired from shoveling. About that time Logan came driving his car down the drive so I had to get up or get run over. Logan had Ryan and Steven in the car with them and they were pretty shocked to see a body laying on the driveway. I had to explain, "no I was not hurt and no I didn't need help" "I was just resting."  I'm sure they thought that was kind of a dumb place to rest. I made it back by walking through the snow instead of the plowed drive. We were suppose to walk down to the road to meet Phil and Anna who were going to take us to the Bible class pancake supper but they got stuck in the driveway.  We worked it out that we would bring my car which has snow tires on and just pick up the girls except we got stuck in our driveway. Luckily Spark and Rhonda came driving up as they too were going to the pancake supper so they pushed us out onto the main road.  Anna brought the girls and their car seats down to the road and we drove very slowly to the fellowship hall making it without anything dramatic happening.  The girls had a wonderful time at the pancake supper.  Even with the snow blowing and piling up on the roads it was well attended.

The snow kept falling and drifting over the roads. Coming home was a little hairy. On Hanna City Glasford road just 4 miles from home we started sliding. Mark was able to keep the car on the road but not before we were swung around first one direction and then the other. The girls thought that was fun. Mark did not.  Phil met us at the end of his drive to help get the girls and all of their treasures back up to the house.  Mark tried to get our car up the drive but we started sliding backward about half way up so just left the car and walked the rest of the way. Tomorrow in the daylight we will have to pull it out with a tractor. We had 8 and a half inches by 3:00 pm and probably had another 3 or 4 inches fall while we were gone this evening. Looks like Mark is going to have his work cut out for him tomorrow morning so everyone out here can get out for church.
Sarah posted some  pictures and videos of Zion's first snowfall for 2019.
The puppies also came out to play and Sarah posted the video below of Zion and the puppies in the snow.
