All of the signs of labor, the pacing, laying down every few minutes but getting right back up, not eating, manuring and urinating small amounts quit as soon as Amy arrived. ALL night long we waited watching for labor to start and instead, Marika walked over to the hay and started eating. Almost like she felt now that Amy was here, she doesn't have to have this foal. The wind last night and still this morning is slamming into the house ripping off siding and picking that up to use as a weapon. The house and barn were groaning under the assault of branches, pieces of siding, insulation and foam boards. Maybe it wasn't the best time to decide to start this job. It is very cold again but at least the rain quit before it turned to snow.
We had a very noisy night. Even Emma got worried and came into our bedroom to sleep.
Marika is standing quietly at the back of her stall this morning. And SO we WAIT!
The other news that happened last night is the deposit came on Galena's colt. He has now been marked sold. He will be going to live with April in Wyoming after weaning. Congratulations APRIL! He is quite the character, reminds me of Easter Bonnet when she was this age. Always next to me as I work, always wanting to help and loving scratches.
Today Rhoda is coming over and I've hired Faith (by giving her cheesecake) to help with getting better pictures of the 6 foals now on the ground.
