I watched Lily most of the night on the monitor and was pretty sure she was in the first stages of labor. She was pacing the stall and looking at her side. By 5:30 am though she was standing quietly eating. Believing I must have read the signs wrong I pulled her out of the stall and put her back in the field with Sheena. Lily wasn't due for another 2 weeks. I was back in the house when Mike came pounding on the door. He had gone to check on Sheena and saw Lily in labor. Quickly I grabbed the cameras and a lead rope and brought her into a stall. I had just started wrapping her tail when she laid down and started to deliver. If you watch the video you will see that one of the legs of the foal was not coming out correctly. It was bent and Lily was struggling, not making progress on pushing the foal out. Mike gently straightened the leg and Lily was able to deliver the colt just fine.
Below are a few pictures of this handsome fellow.
Three of Spark and Rhonda's grand daughters came over to see the new colt
He is a typical Valiant son, very friendly, curious and oh so BIG! He actually has a few white hairs on his forehead which didn't show up until he dried off. Another safe delivery and healthy foal. So so very thankful.
