I went out early to check on the stalled horses. Blueberry and her filly Roseberry were put out in the paddock. The other 3 weren't happy when they were left inside but a wheel barrow of hay was brought in and their empty knocked down water buckets filled before I left for the walk. While we were walking Mike brought all the supplies he picked up yesterday at TSC and started installing electric fence around the paddock.
Blueberry and Roseberry wouldn't leave him alone so they were moved into the next paddock over. After the walk I put halters on the 3 in the stalls and tied them up. In the blue halter is Shadow, Sheena's filly by Evan and in the purple halter is Disco, Dancer's colt by Mafia.
Dahlia, Rosalie's filly by Evan was tied by herself.
They all remembered and none of them pulled back. they were let loose and I started grooming them and they loved that. I started with Shadow but soon Dahlia got between us so she could get brushed. Disco was quick to follow. I took a few pictures for the website of these impressive weanlings. Disco is in front of Dahlia. Both of these foals are 7/8ths Friesian and both are for sale. Shadow, the rump in the picture below is not for sale. She is half Friesian half Thoroughbred and Mike would like to keep her.Dahlia is pictured below.
When I went out of the stall all 3 stood at the stall door looking out.

Mike borrowed the golf cart to get a tool and came back with a dead cat on the back of it.
He thought it might be one of Joan's but she was sent a picture and explained it was not one of hers but she has seen it around and was never able to catch her. There was no obvious trauma so not sure what killed the cat. I buried her in the manure pile. Mike finished the paddock before 11:00 am. We led the 3 foals out and into the paddock. It didn't take long for the first foal to get shocked and soon all 3 had tried to stick their nose between the fence and all three jumped back shocked that the fence would bite them.
Below is Disco. He is going to be really tall and have the mega hair.
I was needed at mom's at 11:00 am. Diane came over just before noon with lunch for mom so I went back to put Roseberry with the other 3 weanlings. Below is a short video. Roseberry had just tried to stick her nose through the fence where her mom was, got shocked and took off running.
The top wire is not electrified so Blueberry can reach over and nuzzle her filly. There was no calling or frantic mama trying to get to her filly. Mark and I took the golf cart down to get the mail and saw that someone had hit and killed a deer last night just past the mailboxes. Some animal had already started feasting on the body during the night. I went back over to mom's after lunch. Diane and mom were enjoying the sunshine out on the deck. Soon it got too hot so Diane left and mom and I went in to rest on the recliners. Joan was busy repairing campers, getting them ready to rent and packing for the trip to Gulf Shores on Saturday. This evening the weanlings were grained. I was really pleased to see they were hungry for the grain and eating well.
Weaning is going well.
