Yesterday Emily and I went out to feed and found the paddock farthest west had a frozen waterer. Paris and Emma were in that paddock. Paris was taken to the weanling paddock while Emma was put in with Evan. With the temperatures hovering around 2 degrees and a pretty good wind the heater just couldn't keep up. The rest of the waterers were fine. This morning I notice Evan trying to scrape ice out of a bucket near his fence. Sure enough his waterer is completely empty but the heater is on. The lines have frozen below. Evan and Emma were taken buckets of water of which they promptly drank 25 gallons. The rest of the waterers, even the farthest west paddock is working today as it has warmed up considerably. Why at 18 degrees this morning it felt warm. I had to take my hat and gloves off to cool off when hauling water. I've filled Evan's waterer and left 2 full buckets for them. If it doesn't start working soon they will need to be put in the weanling paddock while Paris and Rosalie should be over to the short shelter paddock. The weanling paddock has a working electric fence around it while the short shelter paddock doesn't and Evan must have an electric fence or he will try to escape to challenge Valiant. Winter sure makes everything hard.
After breakfast I'll be heading over to mom's to make turtles.
