New Life

After the excitement of Sheena's big beautiful filly, it was time to do some work in the house. I desperately needed to do dishes and had 3 loads of laundry to start. I was glad when Mike and Diane arrived to pull me away from house chores. We needed to move Sheena and her filly into the stall.

The filly is too big to fit under her mom but found a secure spot under Sheena's neck.  We opened the window so Sheena could look out.
Mike held the filly while I got iodine on her cord. She kicked out at that and is such a strong newborn. When we finished though she followed Mike around in the stall.

Berlica brought a big group of girls over to meet the new filly.
They came for the cast party but were staying for the wedding too. Mike and Diane went back outside to check out Dancer and her colt. The colt tasted the salt block for the first time and liked it. He kept going back to that and licking it, then would run to his mom to nurse.
Mike had to show Dancer the pictures of Sheena and her filly.
She was very interested in that phone. My next job was to move 5 bales of hay. Mark and Mackenson were willing to help with that. I gave Mackenson a leadrope and told him to go into the paddock to keep the mares from coming out.

Faith called needing an adapter for the outdoor outlet over at the big barn. The wedding party needed power out in Evan's pasture where they were going to get married so they could practice with the microphone. I knew exactly what was needed. Mark and Mackenson took it over to them. The wedding guests started arriving around noon and by 1:00 pm Evan's North pasture was full of parked cars. The barn parking lot was full of cars and there were cars parked double pretty much all they way around the barn. The golf cart was used to shuttle guest to the South part of the pasture where the chairs were set up. Evan's pasture is a big L shaped which worked out perfectly. Thankfully the weather was perfect. The barn doors were left open and the guests had a wonderful time. I think this was the largest wedding we have ever held and I know for sure all of the tables and chairs were used today. I needed to be at mom's around 12:30 today as we had a lunch date planned. Mom and Aunt Jinnie were out on the deck sunning themselves when I arrived. We watched 2 geese families arrive to go swimming and found out we now have 3 geese families on the lake. One with 6 goslings and 2 with 7 each. We know this as both of the families that arrived today had 7 goslings.

It was interesting to see how the gander protected his family. He actually flew in a circle scaring the big bass away from his goslings.
We left for the Bartonville Diner at 1:00 pm but drove up our second drive so we could see the wedding guests and their cars in the fields. We arrived at the Diner at 1:30 pm and the place was crowded with customers. Even the handicapped parking spot was full. We found 2 places together so the ramp could come down and they seated us pretty quickly at a table.
That table behind mom had been full and within minutes was filled up with 4 men. Mom and  Aunt Jinnie each ordered a reuben sandwich and that came with soup or salad. Mom had the vegetable beef soup and Aunt Jinnie chose a salad. I ordered the walleye dinner. We had the complementary pudding or dessert. Aunt Jinnie chose chocolate while mom chose the banana. All 3 of us just ate half of our meals then took the other half home.  Rachel came over about 4:20 pm so I left then and went straight to the stalls to feed, water and clean Sheena's stall. The filly is doing wonderful.

From there it was time to go home, finished the laundry then get ready for church. Tonight we heard the testimony of Adrian Hernandez. Adrian had been attending the Spanish church in the basement each Sunday and he doesn't speak English so Zac was the interpreter It was interesting. We got home after 9:00 pm. The filly is on the monitor and looks great. Sheena has been laying down so I think she is sore and tired from birthing that big girl.  She is not trying to roll so not colicking. Today was a very busy day but I am so thankful for new life!
