Mother's Day Celebration

As soon as I got up of course I had to turn on the foaling camera to see how Sheena and her filly did during the night. That filly was running around her mom, kicking out and bucking enough to get both back feet up off the ground at the same time. She was more than ready to go out. I just had to make sure she would stick close to her dam on the way to the pasture. That went well and I watched them until Sheena, who was also full of energy settled down to start to graze then let Dancer and her colt out with them on the pasture. Below is the video.

I was walking back to the house when Mike arrived to check on the filly. After watching her he walked down to where Dancer and her colt were and played a bit with the colt.
Above he is letting him suck on his finger and below he laid down in the grass. The colt was curious and came over to check out what this strange human was doing on the ground.

As Star is no longer in season, he decided to take her over to the cabin field to be with Titus and Rosaleigh. I went in then to make breakfast and get ready for church. We had a lot of visitors in Peoria today as today is Mother's day and this afternoon was Adrian's baptism. Mike Kaisner had the morning message on Jochebed, Moses' mother. Click HERE to watch that. As it was Mother's day the men made sure that the women all got to eat at the first setting at lunch. David had the afternoon message but had it both in Spanish and in English. Click HERE to watch that. After church was over we left for home. I needed to tease and cover Star so asked Mike to help with the cover. Star stood very well. I will need to check her again tomorrow. With the short cycle shot she would be progressing about 5 ml each day and we know on Friday she had a 35 ml that means Saturday it would be a 40 and Sunday most likely a 45. She may make it to 50 but some mares ovulate before reaching 50. We have had Friesian mares go to 62.  I really want to make sure we get her covered just before she ovulates. After putting her away and cleaning up I got the food ready to take over to the barn. We had a nice group and so much delicious food for the Mother's day celebration. Everybody brought all kinds of wonderful dishes to go with the fried chicken.

After dinner we celebrated Jack, Jace and Israel's birthdays.

The weather was beautiful so after supper almost everyone went outside to walk or play. Addyson was giving golf cart rides.
Joan made a big campfire as by evening the weather turned cool.
Gertie, Mom, Aunt Jinnie, Mark and I, John and Beth, Diane and Mike, Joan and Sarah stayed until late visiting around the fire. It was much to nice of a fire to leave.
A wonderful ending to a wonderful day!
