Praying for RAIN

Who would have thought after our record breaking spring we would need to pray for rain. Truly I want the rain to help cool this place down more than the needed moisture, we are frying up eggs on the sidewalk. The back gates to the fields are all open to encourage the horses to go down into the woods or at least into the shade but they are not going. We had a high of 95 yesterday with high high humidity, it was so hot Ribbon stuck her entire head into the water.
When she pulls her head out she does this with her face then gives that big head a big shake.
Lola was covered this morning by Valiant but I'm pretty sure she is now out of season. She was not happy with Valiant. At least she is making him a very respectful stallion.  She is the mare that needed twitching, yesterday she showed when he was mounting and didn't squeal or try to kick at all, today she did not show and if she hadn't been twitched would have kicked so I'll mark her down out. We have something interesting going on with Evan since his big fight with Valiant. He will not breed at the breeding stand. I think it is too close to Valiant's paddock and Evan is now intimidated by him. Emma was in big time standing and squirting and he just wouldn't get excited. He was tied up in his paddock, Emma brought into his paddock and tied, the electric fence turned off then as soon as he was brought over to her he was ready and got the job accomplished. I'm going to have to ask Mike to build a breeding stand inside his paddock. It was after 9:00am by the time all the chores were done and I'm dripping wet from the high heat. It is 88 degrees and no breeze. I'll have to spend some time hosing off the horses and cows soon.
