The picture below is of Evan before Emily got on this morning.
He was so excited to get out and run. He was very well behaved today.
After the walk Emily and Karin worked on painting the arena until they ran out of paint. Karin drove the golf cart over to Mikes, borrowed his 4 wheeler and raked the arena while Emily mowed.
The mowing was just about finished when the tractor ran out of gas. Emily and Karin had to string another strand of electric fence in Evan's paddock while I ran to get more gas. Dr. Hoerr arrived shortly after that. First done was Lola, according to the ultrasound she is in season now and should be bred, but she absolutely refuses to stand. We even tried to twitch her but she threw such a fit we quit with her and will try again later. Ayanna was given a shot to bring her in. Dr.Hoerr felt she would be ready to stand tomorrow. Marika had already ovulated probably within the last couple days. She cannot be short cycled. Emma had her coggins drawn and sonagrammed. We were very disappointed to see she had ovulated probably within the last week. She is another mare that will not show as long as she has a foal by her side. Dr. Hoerr left a shot for her that needs to be given in 5 days. Jenis was showing this morning so we asked Dr. Hoerr to bring the collection equipment out with plans to artificially inseminate her but that wasn't meant to be. By the time Dr. Hoerr arrived she had already ovulated and would not stand for the stallion. He felt the best option with her was to infuse her with antibiotics. Our good news was Eliza was confirmed in foal by Valiant. She is due May 20th, 2014. So we have 3 purebred mares confirmed and 3 still to breed, we sure do miss Raven! After dinner we worked on spreading manure on the pond pasture.
Emma and her colt were taken out to graze. Emma is needing calories, her colt is huge and taking most of what she eats.
The sire of this colt is the famous Shire stallion Powerful Paul!
While I was watching them graze the butterfly below was busy flitting from flower to flower.
Once the spreading was finished and the horses put away we sat out on our front porch swing enjoying the evening watching Emily play with Darcy and Emma. The cardinal landed on the tree next to the house. His bright red color stood out against the gray bark and green grass.
