Hay Down

After downing a cup of coffee I went right out to check the rain gauge. Yesterday and last night we got a total of 1 inch of much needed rain.

I think it pretty much all soaked in. The flowers were heavy with blossoms and water and were bowing all the way to the driveway.
I left for the walk after plugging the lift in. After the walk Joan showed us a box she found in a camper.  She is going to try to figure out who the owner is but she believes it came from someone that rented it last year.
Right about then Berlica came in excited there were twin fawns on the drive. I was sure these were the fawns from the big doe in the yard yesterday. No pictures, by the time we went out to see they had slipped into the woods.
Right after breakfast Mark and I went to the barn to start applying primer to the walls we had not finished on Monday. Tuesday was Berean then the barn was occupied so this was the first chance we could go back to work. Mark used the big roller this time as I was trying to not put any stress on my still sore back. I used the trim pad then moved to the smaller roller. I stopped at 11:00 am to drive to East Peoria to pick up a box of peaches and was gone for an hour and 15 minutes.
I arrived before the peach truck from Georgia arrived and still had quite a line to wait in but had a nice visit while waiting for the truck with an older man who asked if I was a Meister. Turned out he knows Spark and Dan quite well. (not that I look like my brothers) I was wearing a Horsemeister shirt.
Mark was still hard at work when I got back so we continued to paint until 1:45 pm then both quit and went home for a late lunch. For lunch I made Mark fish, salad, macaroni and cheese and a small spoonful of sweet potato casserole. While we were eating we heard heavy equipment coming up the drive and just assumed it must be for Mike's disaster zone but it wasn't. The farmer arrived to mow the hayfields. This hay will not be quite as nice as last years first cutting as we had to wait so long for a break in the weather and the grasses are more mature.
At 3:30 pm I left for Limestone high school where Israel was in a baseball tournament.
Rhoda and Lee with Iris and Zeke arrived to watch the game too. Elisabet was glad to see them introduced her to her friend and they all played the entire time the game was being played.

The game was a nail biter in the beginning. Israel's team got a 2 run home run first time up to bat. The other team got a single home run. Then it was 5 to 3 and then Israel's team had an awesome inning scoring 6 more runs. The game ended at 11 to 3. Israel was put in to pitch and struck the first one out, the second batter hit but was out at first and then Israel struck the 3rd one out. At the end of the video the team coach is giving them a talk about tomorrow's game.

A fun game to watch.
They play again tomorrow at Limestone High so will try to make that game too. This evening Aiken and Titus were taken into the stalls for the night. Aiken is finally starting to develop an udder.
It is not full and she is not waxing but the paddock is muddy so they get to spend the night inside tonight. Before heading back to the house I went to check the fields.
It is nice to see the fields mowed and with sunshine predicted for the next 5 days we should have plenty of time to get it raked, baled and put in the barn dry. I had just walked into the house when I heard galloping. I went right back outside to find out what was going on. Evan's back gate, the one going into his stallion pasture had come open. The rope holding the gate shut had rotted and broken. That would have been fine but I had Sheena and her filly in the pasture and the mare pasture was open to the stallion pasture. He went running over to her and she let him know in no uncertain terms he was not welcome around her filly. She ran him off then went into his paddock. That gate was open and Sheena and her filly were just left loose outside while I contained Evan in the stallion pasture but left his paddock open so he could come in and get his grain. Sheena and her filly went right over to the cabin field looking for their grain. I followed them over with the golf cart and locked them in. Sheena is walking very well. It was a productive day.
