I got up early but only because I heard Mark get up and walk into the kitchen. Of course the coffee maker had to be guarded until it finished brewing. Otherwise Mark gets the good strong coffee and I need it much more than he does. At least I think I do. We only had to wait 8 LONG minutes before 2 cups could be poured, 8 minutes I could have been horizontal in bed if only I trusted Mark. Today is our 48th anniversary. We went shopping for a card together and picked one out. Mark forgot his wallet so I paid for it but then he wrote some very nice affirming words which mean much more than the $1.00 I spent on the card. I went out at 7:00 am to take Sheena her sulfa and let the horses out to graze. Sheena and her filly were put in the round pen.
Titus and Aiken were put in the outdoor arena. check out Aiken's baby belly in the picture below. She sticks out quite far on both sides and this is a first foal for her. She is still not showing any signs that she is getting close to delivery.

Ruth didn't make it for the walk again. She is just staying up much too late babysitting to make the 7:30 meeting time. Diane, Joan and I walked over to Rachel's and were joined by David, Rachel and Mike for a family meeting. The way I heard it is all problems are solved on the walk but today it was more about the weekend plans. Diane and Mike are leaving today taking their boat to Mark Twain lake 3 hours away. Joan is taking mom tomorrow morning to Spark and Rhonda's house in Missouri. They will be going to John's house, Tom's house and JR's house then to Branson to Sight and Sound theater to watch King David. After the walk breakfast was made and eaten. We had decided to go out for an early anniversary dinner and were gong to skip lunch so breakfast was extra good. After breakfast the stalls were stripped, water buckets filled and hay put in. I just want to brag on Titus' stall. The picture below is BEFORE cleaning. Just one wet spot and all of his piles at the back of the stall. I've never had a gelding that is so neat and tidy. He enjoys laying down during the night and I guess he wants a clean bed.
I used the last of the bedding so the next job on my list was to drive to TSC to pick up 13 bags of pelleted bedding. Each bag weighs 40 pounds and after bedding the stalls had 8 bags left over. Those were stacked in the indoor on a pallet for later. Mark was busy fixing the high tensile fence that was broken this week. Something or someone ran through it and snapped a couple wires.
I was looking at the 2 thoroughbred mares we brought in yesterday and thought we may have brought back Bulu instead of Holly, and wanted to make sure the other was Curlin. I took a couple pictures of their facial markings so I could compare them on the website.
We did bring the right mares in, above is Holly and below is Curlin.
They were teased and neither are showing any interested in Valiant. I did not get Tessa or Valerie teased today. Mark wanted to mow the pastures so they were not put out.
I was heading over to the barn with my mop to start working on wiping the drywall dust off the walls to prepare for putting on the primer tomorrow when I saw all kinds of cars and vans at the playground. There was a big group at the lake today. Spark and Rhonda's grandchildren, Ruth's grandchildren, Rachel's grandchildren and my grandchildren.
Ezra, one of Spark's was fishing right off that crowded beach and pulled in a big fat bass.
Spark and Rhonda were there as Noel brought her brand new baby girl. They took a 5 generation picture.
What a blessing it is to come on a hot summer day and spend it at the lake with lots of first and second cousins. Dad sure knew what he was doing when he bought this place. Israel was there and asked if I had any jobs needing done as he wanted to earn money for VBS tonight. There is ALWAYS work to be done and I hired him on the spot. He took out garbage, wiped down walls, cleaned the gym, filled water buckets and dumped hay for the horses.
Below is a shortened speeded up video of some of his labor.
After the kids left Mark and I left for Texas Roadhouse. Kim had given us a gift certificate for that restaurant. Below is my first attempt at a selfie.
We sent that to the kids.
Mark ordered the 5 ounce grilled salmon with steamed vegetables and I ordered the 6 ounce steak with a sweet potato.
They were both good but we felt over priced for the portions. We left there satisfied so I can't complain. We are just not used to these high prices. We were there before 4:00 pm and were shocked at how many people were eating out and when we got out of there before 5:00 pm the parking lot was almost full. There must be a lot of people in Peoria and East Peoria with money to blow. Why some of the customers even brought their kids. As I needed to be at mom's by 8:00 pm the horses were brought in a little early and fed their grain. Of course Sheena and her filly spent most of the day inside so their stall was also cleaned and their water buckets topped off again.
That filly loves the grain gets her entire face in the bucket making Sheena wait.
Below is overdue Aiken whose udder is still pretty flat.
Titus is pictured below.
They were both glad to come inside. Kristin is staying with mom tonight until Joan gets back from VBS. She and mom were watching a documentary about traveling by train out west. They were having fun on that trip imagining they were on that train.
