2 More Confirmed

Joan showed up at the walk with a terrible rash all over her body, eyes almost swollen shut and her lips and throat swelling.

She went first to prompt care and they wanted to send her by ambulance to St. Frances. She refused the ambulance, called Faith who was busy so drove herself. She was checked in and insurance info given then sat for over 5 hours before being seen. It was life threatning as her lips and throat were swelling quicker than the 2 shots from the epipens were reacting. She got done just in time to go help at VBS at 7:00 pm. I needed to start loading mares and foals for the trip to Hoerr vet clinic as our appointment was 9:00 am. I was able to take Blueberry, her filly and Rosaleigh in the front of the stock trailer as they were going for their ultrasunds and Sheena and her filly in the back of the stock for a hoof check. She is still very lame where she stepped on a nail 10 days ago. Mike wanted to be there when it was time for Sheena but didn't follow as we were pretty sure we would need to wait. He arrived an hour later which was still in plenty of time. He met one of his long lost first cousins once removed.
Becky's daughter Bree made the comment, we can't leave the house for 5 minutes before meeting another cousin.
As the horses were pretty crammed in the horse trailer and the wait was getting long Blueberry and her filly were taken out and tied to the side of the trailer.
It is good training for a foal to be tied. Sheena was taken in first.
Dr. Hoerr was pleased with her progress and gave us 3 containers of sulfa to start her on. I also needed more 4x4 sponges as I used the last of mine yesterday. Rosaleigh was next.
We are happy to announce she has settled. She was bred to Valiant this year and is due April 30th, 2026
She was taken out of the stocks and Blueberry put in.
She also settled, she too was bred to Valiant and is due April 29th, 2026.
As soon as the horses were all finished they were crammed back into the stock trailer and taken home. Sheena and her filly were unloaded first. They were put in her stall which had been cleaned this morning but still needed new bedding and another wheel barrow full of hay and her 2 water buckets filled. All of this was done before unloading Rosaleigh. Mike loaded Rosaleigh and Star into the 2 horse trailer.
We had left Blueberry and her filly still in the stock trailer so Rosalie and her filly were loaded next and tied up near the front leaving room for Dancer and her colt. Dancer walked right in but the colt missed the trailer door and took off running trying to find where his mama disappeared to.
It took a few minutes and a few laps around the trailer for him to realize she was inside the trailer, then walked right in. We got to Middle Grove about 1:00 pm and drove straight back and over the hill. The horses were not in sight but their hearing is very good. Mike whistled and they all came running. Below is a video of the herd coming, the mares and foals being unloaded.
We wanted to bring back Valerie, Tessa, Holly and Curlin for breeding. Valerie and Tessa were haltered and tied. Holly was tied but when the mares and foals were let out of the trailer Tessa and Holly's leadropes were too loose and they both took off. Tessa didn't run with the herd as Valerie was still with me so both of those mares were loaded in the front then Mike went to get Holly and Curlin. Once all the horses were loaded we started home. I stopped for gas and that is when Joan called to let us know they were sending her to OSF. She needed a camper moved to Norris so instead of getting gas I just drove straight home. The 4 mares were unloaded. Below is 2 very muddy 3 year old mares, Valerie and Tessa. They had been swimming and had a good roll in the mud when we picked them up at Middle Grove.
They certainly know how to live in the wild by swimming to keep cool and covering themselves with mud to keep the flies off. Holly and Curlin were put in the paddock next to Valiant. Hopefully they will start to show soon but today none of the 4 were in season. The stock trailer was backed and left then I went down to the house to grab Mark to help hook up and camper and drive that to the Uplands. That was needed this afternoon.
Ruth was with mom and needed to be relieved by 4:30 pm as Anni was dropping off her 2 boys for Ruth to baby sit while she and Matt worked at VBS. I made it to mom's by 4:20 pm giving Ruth plenty of time to make it home for Anni. I had not been home all day and wasn't sure what to make for supper so asked Mark to find something at our house and bring it over. He brought over 4 egg rolls but just then Beth and Greg arrived with a feast. They brought a huge amount of spaghetti, meat balls, meat sauce, lettuce salad and garlic bread AND 2 containers of soft serve ice cream for dessert. We knew Mackenson was home alone so I took the golf cart over to pick him up for supper and was followed over by a man in a truck coming to pick up a camper. That worked out perfect. He had actually rented it for tomorrow but had asked if he could pick it up the night before as he works in Peoria. He was shown everything, hitched and ready to pull out within 15 minutes.
The last camper is leaving tomorrow.
Joan and Berlica arrived at mom's by 9:20 pm. I left immediately to bring in horses, clean up Sheena's stall, fill 6 water buckets bring in 3 wheel barrow loads of hay and then get back to the house to fall into bed. I was thankful Joan is out of the woods and feeling better, thankful all the campers got where they needed to be and especially thankful that 2 more mares are confirmed in foal.
