On the Mend

Aiken and Titus were let out of their stalls at 6:00 am and taken straight to the outdoor arena to graze. Aiken's udder is just not developing. I know she is pregnant. Today I saw the foal move and her belly is getting bigger. I'm sure I wrote the correct dates down of her covers by Valiant but we have never had a mare go this late. She is now 15 days late. The drywallers arrived as I was organizing the tables and chairs at the barn. I got the key for the lift and plugged it in for their use before taking the table cloths and sheets over to the barn, making the bed and organizing the table cloths finishing just as Diane and Ruth arrived for the walk. We stopped first at Diane's so she could put away the books she bought from Ruth. Mike and Diane brought the solar boat home from Middle Grove and Diane wanted Ruth to explain the best way to clean out the portapotty.

When we got to Joan's house Daxton, Mackenson's dog was all tangled up in the trampoline frame. Ruth got him free then Diane, Ruth and I moved the trampoline away from his leash. As we were moving it evidently I wasn't moving fast enough and he bit me on the back of the leg. It didn't rip my skirt or break the skin but he for sure gave me a good nip. I was so shocked I yelped then exclaimed, "he bit me!"  shame on him. Hopefully will remember never to turn my back on him again. After the walk and after breakfast I left for the Peoria airport to wait in line to buy our flight tickets to Punta Gorda in December. Mark and I will be flying with Rhoda, Lee, Iris and Zeke. We will be joining Sarah and Nolan's family along with David and Stephanie's family in Naples Park for Christmas. There is a discount to buy the tickets at the airport but they only allow this on Monday's from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. I stood in line until 11:25 am but was still allowed to buy the tickets as I had been in line since 10:30. Sheena's vet appointment was at 1:30 pm so at 12:45 pm I put a lead rope on her and was bringing her and her filly to the stall to put a halter on the filly when Mike and Crew arrived to hook up the 2 horse trailer. Mike decided Crew should lead the filly.
The filly had never been led before so Crew had his hands full.
Below they are pulling out.
I went to the cabin field to bring back the two rosas (Rosalie and Rosaleigh) Blueberry and the 2 fillies. It is time to start teasing Blueberry and Rosaleigh. They were put in Evan's pasture while he is locked in his paddock. They both went up to him but emphatically said "NO!" We shall see, it is still a little early for them to be coming back in season if they did not settle. As Dancer and her colt were by themselves with Sheena gone the back gate opened so she could join them.

It took her a while to figure out she needed to go into the other pasture to be with them but she finally did and they all settled down to graze.
Dr. Hoerr was pleased with Sheena's leg. It is on the mend so he did not do the surgery he had planned. Instead he took the bandage off, cleaned out the puncture wound and treated it with more antibiotics directly into the wound. After wrapping it up again and giving her more antibiotics IV Mike brought them home. We have to change the bandage every day and keep giving her 40 ccs of gentamicin each day. Mike made a breakaway halter for her filly and left that on her. She was a stinker at the vet not wanting to stand quietly so he decided she needs to be worked with. She is not happy wearing it but will get used to it.
Dancer and her colt were checking out the deck to see if there was any spilled grain.

They walked over to lick the salt block. Below is a short video first of Dancer and her colt then Sheena's filly.

I actually drove over to the cabin field to look for my black lead rope Mike and Crew used on Sheena's filly but it wasn't there. On the way back stopped to check out the hay field. It is ready to cut and would be perfect to cut now as the grasses are full of seed heads but we have rain predicted tomorrow so that will have to wait.

The sun was starting to sink low and it was a ball of red again.
From there I went to the stall barn to fill water buckets then to the indoor to fill a wheel barrow full of hay for Aiken and Titus.
They were both stalled for the night.
