We didn't work too hard today, set a few gate posts early and fed the horses before the rain started then just worked on laundry. I needed an easy day. Tonight mom, Mark and I went to HiVee for dinner before going to testimonies at church. This was the first time mom had been there, she was impressed with all the fresh fruits and vegetables.
The testimonies were such a blessing. Dale Thomas starts by telling us he is 78 years old and this will take a while. It was so refreshing to listen to him. He talked about his first job working as a paper boy for the Journal Star at 7 years of age and his playground which was down town Peoria. Can you imagine today expecting a 7 year old to deliver papers downtown? Then going to the Greenstreet church as a young child, when the new church was built coming here and sitting up on the balcony as a 14 year old boy already addicted to cigarettes, then walking away from church because he was ashamed of the smell. He talked about his search for peace, his hunger to know God and how wonderful it was when he finally made the decision to repent. His wife Melinda was next. She started off with, "well mine won't be as long, I'm only 70 years old." That had the church chuckling. It really was a wonderful evening.
