Emily and I loaded up Hadassah and Solomon before the walk and had to quit half way to be at Dr. Hoerr's by 8:30am for her ultrasound and coggins test. Dr. Hoerr was just about ready for us and just about as soon as he stuck the sonagram wand inside saw the embryo on the screen. We were even able to see the heart beating. I went in to pay the bill while Dr. Hoerr got ready to artificially inseminate one of his mares. He offered to teach Emily how to do this. Below he is showing her how to prepare the mare.
Emily is all gloved up and ready for the lubricant.
She inserts the pipette along with her hand, finds the cervix, inserts her finger in as a guide then the pipette. Once it is in place the syringe holding the semen is squirted in.
The pipette is removed and the cervix is massaged. All done! Good job Emily.
We made it home in plenty of time to bring Eliza and her colt inside for their noon appointment with a lady looking for a Friesian colt. She brought a friend and besides ooing and awwing over Eliza and her colt they got the grand tour. They met all of the Friesians and got to watch Evan show off in the outdoor arena. They were most impressed with Valiant. Many many pictures and videos were taken to take back with them. One of the comments was, "I've never seen so many Friesians in one place!"
After they left, Sarah, Rhoda and Emily loaded up Jenis, Ayanna and Indy for a trip to Jubilee State Park.
Rhoda is loading Ayanna and Indy in the front of the trailer.
While Sarah waits with Jenis who was then loaded in the back of the trailer.
They made it home in time for grilled chicken and vegetable kabobs. The farmer started baling the hay around 5:00pm, Mark and I started moving the bales off the field right after supper and quit when it got too dark to be driving on the fields. We got 47 nice big round bales off this first cutting. We were only able to get 21 of them into the barn tonight.
