Training Izzy

Today was training day for Izzy. I waited until after breakfast to start before it became so unbearably hot. More on that later. I drove over to Ruth's with 2 umbrellas at 7:00 am. She was taking her grand children to lake Michigan and needed shade. Diane, Joan and I walked. After the walk came breakfast and then came the first of 2 sessions with Izzy. This first session was to take her out to the round pen. Saddle, bridle and then work with her to back and turn by using a little bit pressure. She picked it up very quickly. No bucking, and she even stood still for the fly spray. I was also impressed when she opened her mouth for the bit.

I asked her to move out on both sides then put some of my weight on the saddle. She stood well was given a treat then taken back. The waterer in that paddock was leaking so I put Izzy into the paddock next to Valiant's. Harli was brought over and teased first by Valiant and then by Evan. She didn't strike out, squeal or kick but also wouldn't lift her tail and it is so thick I couldn't tell if she was interested or not. She was put in with Izzy and did not go near Valiant so I'm assuming she is not in season.

They both stuck together keeping away from Valiant.
Rachel and David made it up to lake Superior and sent back a picture.
It was a high of 67 degrees up there and that sounded wonderful as it was in the 90s here AND terribly humid. Ruth sent back pictures of her grand children at lake Michigan.

Nolan dropped Zion off this afternoon to help with Izzy's training. After saddling and bridling I had Zion sit on her. She did well so I led her around the round pen. After Zion slid off we felt that was so successful that we decided take her around the neighborhood.
Zion took some video while I drove the golf cart leading Izzy over to Mike and Diane's pond. She didn't want to go in the water but when I walked into the pond and encouraged her she followed me in and took a drink.

Below Zion is asking her to come out of the pond.
Next we took her to the playground. Zion jumped on the trampoline while Izzy was asked to stand quietly. She flinched a few times but didn't move her hooves so was given a treat.

We were taking her back to the barn when we saw Mike and asked him to walk along side with Zion mounted on Izzy. Again we were very pleased, no spooking or shying, she just plodded along like she was supposed to. We took a video of most of this training sesson.

Izzy was taken back to the barn, untacked then hosed off.
Zion showed me the trick she learned on the vaulting barrel yesterday. I think Berlica taught her how to do that.
Izzy was put away and Zion taken to their new house where Nolan was working. He was bringing in sheets of drywall for their new walls going up. Sarah and Nolan had a tough day. One of their dogs went into labor last night and ended up needing an emergency C section. The puppy that was stuck in the birth canal didn't make it but the other 4 puppies are fine. A big thank you to Dr. Hoerr for saving the mama dog and 4 puppies. I spent the evening at mom's house while Joan took the kids to Bible study. We had a big storm this evening with some close lightning strikes and lots of booming thunder. I got drenched taking the golf cart home. We are thankful for the rain.
