Training Izzy

I went out early to work with Izzy taking her to the round pen and teaching her to stand still for fly spray. She was also round penned a little and each time she did as I asked was given a treat. She did so well I went back to get Harli. Harli was not good for the fly spray, she was actually dangerous as she tried to get away from the sprayer but when she finally gave up and let me spray her she too was given a treat. Both mares were left in the round pen while I left for the walk. Diane told us all about their wonderful trip with the solar coasters on Mark Twain lake in Missouri. When we got to the cabin she was showing us some of the improvements on the boat.

They slept very comfortable on the boat and it turned out to be a great weekend.
After the walk I was going back to the round pen to put work them a little more before breakfast when Crew arrived driving the jeep and giving his grandpa a ride.
Mike and Crew decided to come help with the Gypsies.

Above he is spraying Harli and below he is spraying Izzy.

The video below shows Izzy learning to stand then getting a treat first then Harli.

When they were standing well, we led them back to the paddock. Below they are letting Harli go.
Crew gave both of them some handfuls of grain. We just keep marveling at those tails!
Sarah arrived with her 3 girls plus Israel and Elisabet. They were going to come riding but the rain started so they went to the barn to play in the gym until the rain stopped after lunch. When the sun came out Missy was taken out. By the time I arrived Zion was standing up on Missy after enjoying a nice canter.
River decided she wanted to try that too.

Missy was taken into the outdoor arena for Israel to ride while we brought Izzy out for Zion to start training.  Below Israel and Missy are having fun.

First we brought Izzy in and had Zion round pen her, then we added the saddle and wow did Izzy start bucking. I had to yell at her when she was bucking so hard she started to come into the middle of the round pen where Zion was. Once she settled down with the saddle Israel round penned her then we added the bridle. Israel led her a bit with the bridle then used the bit to ask for a stop just a few times before we took the bridle off. She was doing so well that Israel laid on the saddle with all of his weight. She didn't move and was given a treat.
Last we had Zion sit on her back and she was again given a handful of grain for standing quietly.
The video below shows from start to finish.

I'm thankful that these grandchildren want to learn to train and very pleased with how well Izzy did AND how well Zion and Israel did with her. After Sarah left I went back over to the barn to bring back the left overs from last night's supper then work a little here in our house. Mark left to work on headlights so I had a couple hours to read the book Rhoda gave me yesterday. After finishing the book I made us both salads for supper tonight using a tomato off of one of my plants, frying up 6 pieces of bacon to crumble then adding lots of other vegetables. Mark enjoyed the supper and so did I. For the Thursday dinner I baked 2 pumpkin dump cakes and covered them with candied pecans. One was served on Thursday the other wrapped well and put in the freezer for the Berean volunteers on Saturday. The frozen one was removed from the freezer to defrost for tomorrow.
Karin sent some pictures of one of the alligators swimming around in the lake their condo overlooks.
John and Beth were there and if John would have brought his hunting gear they could have had a nice alligator roast for Sunday dinner.
