Working With Weanlings

Mom, Joan and I walked to Diane's house and back and mom didn't use the walker. Instead she just took her two trekking sticks. Today was Bible study at her house, she had 10 guests and it went well.  Today was the day I needed to work with the weanlings. The first day we take their mom's away they are too distracted to work with but today they are quiet and much more willing to listen and learn. Each weanling was tied.
Above is Lily's colt by Valiant and below are Indy's colt by Evan right and left is Oksana's colt by Evan.
Lily's colt was worked with first. He was taught to give to pressure and back when asked. This is the start of the leading instructions. Next his front hooves were picked up. He did well on those but didn't want me touching his back hooves. I used a lead rope around his fetlock and pulled each one up then laid it down about 10 times. By the time I quit he was standing quietly.
After he was done, he was let loose and given a treat.  Next Oksana's colt was led into the third stall and tied while I worked with Indy's colt. Indy's colt is the tallest colt, also the oldest. He is picking up the leading and backing well. He also stands quietly tied. He was good for all 4 hooves. Oksana's colt was not happy that he was in a stall by himself but quieted down once I was in working with him. I had to use the rope on his back legs. It is one of the more dangerous jobs when asking the weanlings to pick up their back legs and is important we do this when they are first born. That makes it much easier when they are weaned. They really do remember.  Mike's old loader is suppose to get picked up today so Mike drove it over here.
The man buying it hired a trucking company to come pick it up and the driver said it is a huge rig. He will have to come straight up the drive and loaded it here then head straight down. Mark and Joan worked most of the afternoon removing the rest of the paving blocks from here to Joan's house for her beach. Those blocks are really heavy. Now Mark will be able to weed whack the huge weeds that grew up around those 2 pallet loads of blocks.
Mark, Ruth and I went to mom's tonight for church. The big screen is no longer at her house as Ruth and Fedi took it home. Ruth was cleaning out mom's second bedroom to make room for Aunt Jinny who is coming for a visit a week from today. We watched church on mom's laptop. Mike Kaisner had the message.
