Waiting For Foals

I had to get going early this morning as Anna was dropping the girls off this morning a little after 7:00 am.  Anna was teased and covered first, then Hadassah. Both mares are still in and as Hadassah was being covered I noticed Jury is also still in. She will be covered tomorrow if she hasn't gone out by then.  The mares were taken out of the stalls and put in the field and then it was time to go meet Anna and the girls. They had so much fun today. Below Braelyn and Taegan are playing with the pirate jewels and plates. The lanterns are magnetic and stick to the plates.
Kensley had to show me her somersault.

They were playing very nice with the Breyer horses and pirate jewels.
Hux got to come too today. He enjoyed playing with Emma.
The golf cart was taken over to the cabin field to feed breakfast to the horses there.
Below is Foxy eating her grain. She is due today but her udder showed me she is not going to deliver today.
Karin and Kayla arrived at 9:00 am and the first on the list was to clean up Missy. She had gotten into burrs. Kayla worked on her tail while Karin worked on her mane.
As soon as she was all groomed up Braelyn (now officially a Horsemeister worker as she has the shirt) led Missy to the outdoor arena followed by Taegan and Kensley.

Missy was due 2 days ago. This is her first foal and her udder isn't huge but she is waxing a little.  She is also going to make us wait to see her foal.
The next mare out for pictures was Star. Below Kayla is brushing out her long tail.
Check out that baby bump. Star is one week over due. I checked back on our 2017 calendar to make sure of the date and realized earlier I marked her down the first day she was covered not the last. Karin pulled a little colostrum and it is still clear, not milky so no foal tonight. Another foal we are waiting on!

Jewel was next for pictures. Jewel isn't due until May 1st but the last pictures I took of her were in May of 2016. It really was time for some updated pictures for the website. She is just a beautiful mare. She is tall, over 16.1 hands, elegant and throws amazing movement in her foals.

She also has a thick long mane and tail and throws the extreme hair in her offspring.  Below Kayla is leading her back to the pasture.
Next we brought Galena and her colt in for a haltering, tying and hoof picking up. He was a handful at first but soon remembered some of his lessons.

The next foal worked with was Soul's colt. I expected him to be awful as we call him the 'wildchild' but he too remembered his earlier training and impressed Karin with how well he did.  No pictures of him though as we just worked with him in the stall.  By the time we finished with him it was 11:00 am and Kayla needed to leave. Karin came down for some lunch and mom joined us for tea.  The girls put on a pirate play for us.
After lunch Mark got some shovels so he and the girls could dig for worms in the manure pile.
They had good success finding lots of worms.
Above Taegan found one and is handing it to Braelyn to put in the bucket and below Kensley is carrying a worm to the bucket.
Braelyn found out if she would pull the old weeds out there were usually worms stuck to the dirt in the roots.

Taegan got good at digging and handing worms to grandpa.
Even Hux got involved in the digging.

Taegan found a huge long night crawler.

We decided we had plenty of worms to go fishing and climbed in the golf cart to head over to mom's beach. Below Taegan is measuring her huge long night crawler.
That was the worm we used first and within minutes Braelyn pulled up a young bass.
Below she is throwing it back in the water while Kensley picks flowers.
Next was Taegan's turn to fish.
 She pulled up a sunny.
Anna came right about then so the fishing pole was put away and the tired happy Hux and girls went home.  I headed over to the cabin field to give Sheena her last antibiotic shot. This one was the long lasting Exceed. Her leg is no longer swollen and she is not lame on it at all.  With Foxy due today, she was taken over to the stall barn and stalled for the night. Even though her udder is not filled I just don't want to take a chance on a maiden mare delivering out in a field. Jewel was taken over to the cabin field to keep Sheena company. Both mares were glad to see each other. They will probably deliver around the same time and can raise their foals together.  Missy and Star were also stalled for the night.  Anna's colt, Luka was brought into the stall for a haltering lesson. He was perfect for tying and picking up all 4 hooves. This colt is smart, he remembered from the last time I worked with him.  Dan came over to talk solar with Mark and stayed for dinner.  We sure had a fun filled busy day and our bed is going to feel great tonight.
