A COLD Saturday

It was only 12 degrees this morning with snow and ice on the ground. I walked up to check on Rosalie shortly after 6:00 am. She was fine but had rolled. It was so cold outside that if she had delivered the foal would more than likely not have survived. She isn't due until April 7th and her udder is still not quite ready so we should have some time. The moon was still out, just a sliver but I stopped, took my gloves off and took a picture.

In case you can't see the moon I zoomed in.
It was my turn to be with mom today so after breakfast drove over there. Mark left at 7:30 am to help with church cleaning.  After that was done, he drove to COSTCO to get his hearing aids fixed and  when that was done picked up a chicken and brought it over to mom's for our lunch. I served that with broccoli salad, wild rice and the pumpkin pecan dessert. Spark came over about that time so joined us.  Rhonda has an appointment with the neuro team on Monday and they are hoping for a referral to Mayo Clinic. When Karin came home I left and drove straight to Sam's Club to pick up the food for our Sunday dinner and once home started working on that getting the roasts in the crock pot. My next job was to bring Rosalie into a stall and clean all the burrs out of her mane and tail. She had rolled so was also groomed but some of the mud was still a little wet. Her udder was checked. It is filled but notice how the teats are touching? When they separate and start pointing down her udder will be fuller and she will be much closer to delivery.
Mark moved a square bale into the stall barn and her stall was made ready but since she still has some time she was taken back outside.
That is snow in the picture above. It was cold and spitting snow most of the day.
On the way back to the house a big fat robin was looking for warmth on this cold snowy day.
This robin picked a bad day to arrive, should have stayed South a little longer. No worms can break through the ice and frozen ground.  Mark has had a fire going all day in the wood burner. I'm thankful for the heat.
