Working in the Rain

Another cold, gray, drizzly November morning. Karin and Kayla arrived at 9:00 am and were asked first to bring Sangria and Serenity inside so Serenity could be handled,  haltered, tied and her hooves picked up. Serenity remembered everything even though she hasn't been worked with for a couple weeks. She stood quietly while Karin haltered and tied her.  Below is Kayla with Serenity.
Below Karin is picking up her hooves. Serenity's back was wet from the constant drizzle but she was not cold.
I was shocked when I walked into the indoor arena. Karin and Rhoda had moved a lot of Mark's equipment and raked it. We still have all the skid steer attachments that will need to be moved up at the front end before the arena can be used this winter for practice. Plus Mark wants the manure spreader and the camping trailer inside. We want those things under cover but hopefully NOT in the riding arena. Mark suggested we take all the hay out and store equipment in the back then just try to cover the hay with a tarp. Nope, if I have my way that's not going to happen.
The other surprise was the round pen and the outdoor arena had been raked too yesterday evening.  Rhoda and Karin work so well together, glad we have lights both inside and out, it is now getting dark way to quickly.
This morning Mark was working in the back garage of the barn changing oil in the truck.
As soon as Serenity and Sangria were put back into the paddock, Serenity wanted to nurse but Sangria wanted to roll. After Sangria rolled she walked under the pavilion but wasn't quite quick enough to stand still and that made Serenity mad. Notice her shaking her head at Sangria.
She finally got her way. That is Envy off to the left.
Envy enjoyed being under the pavilion and out of the rain too.
Below is Oksana and Darla. Oksana didn't mind the rain but Darla probably would have preferred her mom to stand either in one of the shelters or under the pavilion.
Karin and Kayla took Galena and Anna to the outside and worked them in the rain. Galena was determined to get Karin off today and not only tried to buck but also started hopping up with her front legs, not enough to really call it a rear but close. She really isn't very athletic.
Above she would hop up with her front legs then below buck up with her back legs. She didn't get very far off the ground.

She finally figured out Karin was not going to get off and was not going to stop asking and settled down giving her a nice open trot and listening to Karin's cues.

Hopefully Galena will realize soon she just has to work harder if she misbehaves. Mark finished changing the oil in the truck and switched that out with my car so that could also have an oil change.
While Karin was working with Galena in the outdoor arena Kayla was working with Anna in the round pen.

Below Kayla is getting ready to ride Anna back to the barn. The rain was coming down harder and we were all wet and cold.
Anna is such a sweet mare. She is also the next mare due at Horsemeister. We have a nice long break as she isn't due until March 19th, 2018. Last year she delivered 10 days late, so we may have until the end of March before we need to worry about babies again. This afternoon Karin worked with Indy and Oksana but I didn't even go out to watch. The laundry needed to be done and I just didn't want to get wet again. This evening was the Senior Citizen Dinner at the fellowship hall. This is for anyone 65 years old or older but because Mark is 67 I got to go too. We drove mom there and had a very nice evening. The dinner was excellent. The AC's sure do know how to put on a delicious gourmet meal for large groups. Every course was a delight to the taste buds. Of course this wasn't just a dinner, this was dinner and a movie. The young group made a video of their trip to Colorado and shared it with us. Then sang four beautiful songs and then finished by introducing themselves, their names, who their parents are and who their grandparents are. What a blessed evening. Thankful we are blessed with a multi generational church and actually KNOW who they are,  their parents and grandparents.
