Jewel On Foal Watch

I was up early this morning, lots to do before leaving for the walk.  Jewel and Cookie were checked on. Jewel is heavily waxing so instead of putting these two outside they were left in for the day.  Cookie seemed a little better but that could be the bute working.  After the stalls were cleaned and the horses fed and watered, Mark was given a hair cut before making breakfast. He has been needing one and I was too tired last night to get that job done.  The Berean meal put in the crock pot for heating up and then it was time to leave for the walk. Ebby was waiting on our patio for Emma and me to head over to the meeting place. I only did one round today so I could get to work on time. If you would like to read about our morning at the Berean office today click HERE.  When I arrived home from there Rhoda was here to help. I was hesitant to have her help, she is due in less than 2 months with our 11th grand child.  We started with teasing and covering Jury with Valiant then Rosalie with Evan. Lola is still in and will need to be covered tomorrow morning.  Next we pulled out Star to get some updated pictures of her colt now 8 days old. He also got his very first haltering, tying and hoof picking up lesson. He hated that. He was haltered and tied first in the stall then taken to the outdoor for pictures. By the end of the lesson he was much better than the beginning. He must be smart.

Check out that thick brush of a mane on this 8 day old colt. His tail is also exceptionally long for such a young colt.  He was curious about the grain but did not taste it, he is a little young for that but when he saw his mama eating it he wanted to check it out.
They were asked to move for a few action shots.

Rhoda was very impressed with his canter, she said, "who ever ends up with him is going to love that canter, it is so smooth."
Our next job was to soak Missy's feet in buckets of freezing cold water. She is most sore on her left front hoof. That hoof we soaked twice. We also did the right front but she did not want to put weight on the left for us to lift the right to get it into the bucket so spent most of the time with the left.
While we had her soaking her hoof we spent the time grooming her to help her shed and got the tangles all out of her mane. Cookie is almost magical in her beauty.
Sarah arrived with Zion and she likes horses too, well she liked riding the rocking horse anyway.

Zion is such a happy baby.  We went to Gil's Supper club for dinner tonight. That is always a treat.  Rhoda and Sarah left after dinner. Mark went out to cut leveling pads for Joan's solar system. I cleaned stalls one more time, brought straw in for Jewel's stall and wrapped her tail. She does not act like she is in labor but with the amount of milk waxing on her udder she should have the foal tonight or tomorrow. The foaling cameras are both working and she is on the monitor. Praying for a safe delivery and a healthy foal.
