Monday Morning

What a privilege it is to stay in bed an extra hour! Amy Koch does stalls at Bridlewood on Mondays so I knew that I would not need to call in the mares until after 6:30am. Darcy came in my room at 5:00am to remind me that I usually get up at this time, how nice to tell her go back to bed. The mares were called in at 6:40am, they heard me getting the grain and came running but Apelles did not. She was at the far end of the back field with Henry taking a nap and didn't realize the 2 old mares had already come, she came at a gallop then. Darcy and I took off for the farm around 7:00am. Funny story about Darcy yesterday. We took her with us when we went to clean up the skid steer. She swam in Diane's pond for a few minutes then decided it was time to go home so she climbed in the car. Mark took an hour to clean up the skid steer so Darcy got impatient and climbed into the front seat accidentally hitting the horn a few times. Diane made the comment, "it looks like Darcy is impatient to leave and letting you know." Raven was grained then Lily and Ciera were moved into the back paddock to open a place in the breeding shed for Ylse. After our walk, Diane helped move Ylse and her filly (still to be named) into the small paddock. Sanna and Jenis and their foals are in the larger paddock. Raven was brought over to both paddocks to check if any are in season, Ylse is not, Sanna is still in and Jenis was also in so Mike helped me get her covered. We think that Jenis and Valor got into nettles (itch weed) and that is causing them to rub away their hair. Jenis has broken off an entire section of her mane and poor Valor is rubbing himself raw in places. Now that they are in a paddock with a fan they should stop. We are looking for a spray or salve to put on them to stop the intense itching.
