A Trip To Middle Grove

It was another cold day so we put off teasing the mares until after our trip to Middle Grove. Today was weaning day for Sissy and her filly named Raven's Heart by her owner. The filly was stalled and Sissy was loaded into the trailer with Sheena who is now out of season. Once we arrived at Middle Grove the 2 mares were let loose and I started walking up the first hill while Emily turned the truck and trailer around. We thought Sissy and Sheena would follow us to the herd but that didn't happen. At the top we could see the herd way off in the distance. Emily and I had quite a hike to reach them. They were glad to see us and came right up for attention.
Prissy above, came running up while the others walked over to us. Ayanna had a big stick stuck in her mane which Emily removed. On this trip we wanted to bring back Emma and Prissy for sonagrams and Ayanna as she is the next mare due.
We were disappointed to see Emma hanging around Killian and showing to him. He wasn't interested so she may have been pestering him a lot.
We made the decision to leave her just in case he had already covered her. She will need to be brought back in 3 weeks. Emily bridled Killian and rode down to the rest of the herd.
They were all spread out over a wide area but below was one clump of horses.
The funniest thing today was Hadassah came up with Star's filly. At first we were thinking she stole the filly from Star but later we realized Hadassah was just watching out for her. Star came not too much later and claimed her.
Then Lily's colt comes running up leaving Lily grazing and Cookie runs over to stand watch over him.
It is wonderful how the entire herd watches out for the foals no matter who is the mother. I was trying to video tape Emily riding Killian and Oksana had her head right in my face bumping me everyonce in a while. She is extremely friendly. She is going to have the mega hair of her mom, Eliza. She will be 2 years old next month.
Check out how huge Ella is, she isn't due until July.
This is a first foal for Ayanna and we can't believe how big she looks. She is due in just over a month. Ayanna is on the left and Anna is on the right.
Rhiannon has joined back up with her mom Jewel now that Promise is at the Hanna City Farm.
Emily popped on Jewel so I could get a video of Rhiannon's movement. That will be worked on tomorrow.
The best surprise was Paris. She has definitely improved and no longer at deaths door. We really did think we were going to lose her, she was diagnosed with an abscess on her liver. We can't believe she is healed and now picking up weight. Emily spent some time giving her lots of attention. She and Jenis were hanging out together today.

We had to leave quickly the dark clouds came rushing up and started dumping rain on us as we were leading Ayanna and Prissy back. We got back to the gate to find Sheena had run through the electric gate and was in the wrong pasture. We were able to get her where she belonged and made sure she joined the herd but the electric gate was all stretched out. We hooked it up but it is no longer electrified. Mike will need to replace that. When we arrived back at the farm Holly, Zalena and their foals were brought over from the cabin field and placed in the breeding shed. Zalena was teased and is still in so covered by Valiant, then Eliza was teased and is also still in so was covered by Evan. Heart was taken out of the stall and given a leading lesson
then placed in with Promise. They were given some grain and both fillies were sharing a bucket so that is a good pairing. I could hardly wait to get my wet muddy socks, shoes and pants off get warm wool socks and sweats on then get under an electric throw to warm up.
Dan and Spark met with the fire marshals, the entire top floor is completely destroyed, there is still smoke coming out of the building. Dan has promised updates.
