Auction for Haiti
What a wonderful day. The sun was shining enough to give off enough warmth that only light jackets were needed. We ended up at Diane's for lunch where she served home made beef vegetable soup along with chicken salad, croissants filled with shaved turkey or roast beef with munster cheese, chips, grapes and for dessert pecan pie or pumpkin cake with cream-cheese frosting. After lunch Anna took her 2 girls home for naps while Taunya, Addyson, Jack, Sarah, Rhoda and Stephanie went shopping and Karin worked horses. Pictures were taken but will have to be uploaded tomorrow. Sarah brought some friends over to ride, unfortunately all the riding horses are at Middle Grove. She got out and used Jenis for them. Diane picked up mom, Ruth and I and drove to the 5 Points in Washington where the dinner and auction for hospital Lumiere in Haiti was being held. This was so much fun, like a blast from the past. We saw friends from years ago, the fellowshipping during dinner and the silent auction was at a roar. The group Testify got up to sing and sang to us for a half hour which kind of quieted the crowd a bit. Their songs also brought back memories of when we were in the young group. The room was packed with people all ready to open the purse strings and spend spend spend. The auctioneers of which there were 3 where so entertaining. The most expensive item was a week's vacation in Connecticut at a very nice house. That went for $26,000.00 and when all the bidding was finished on that the auctioneer pipes up with, "you know you only bought 1 week, not the house!" Stephanie's dad was one of the helpers, holding up the item for bid, at one point he was to exhibit a fancy ladies back pack. He put it on and strutted down the aisle like a lady on a runway causing the room to break out in loud laughter. A half hour of helicopter flight time was donated which went for $5000.00, then if that wasn't enough another half hour of instruction time, learning to fly the helicopter went for another $2500.00. We didn't stay until the end just too tired and it has been a long day.
