This morning the kitchen needed to be cleaned and the dishes done. Some of the dishes were still from Thursday and all of Friday's were piled up in the sink. Good thing we weren't expecting any company. The kitchen was finished by 9:15 leaving me 15 minutes for a shower before going over to mom's. Mom was busy painting when I arrived.
She wanted to go to Walmart to pick out flowers for the planters but Aunt Jinnie talked her into waiting as it is still too cold outside to plant the planters. The sun was shining brightly but the air was cool. That meant it was the perfect temperature to sit out on the deck to watch the birds. We stayed outside until all 3 of us were getting too much sun. Once back inside Aunt Jinnie got the book she is reading to mom for the story hour. I left then to take the pizza ingredients back. I packed all those ingredients to make pizza for lunch for them but found out they had pizza last night. Mark and Mackenson were working on the drive.
He is putting in what is called waterbars to stop the erosion on the drive. This morning he had offered to pick up food from the Warehouse for our lunch but I had already packed the pizza ingredients. I walked down to tell him we would be glad for him to pick up the Warehouse special for our lunch today. Two of the guests at the foaling apartment were out looking at the horses. Funny story when I was coming over to to let him know I saw those two guys up by the middle paddock and just assumed it was Mark and Mackenson. I took the golf cart up and when I realized it was not stopped to talk to them and tell them the horses names. Then I explained that I had actually driven up because I thought it was my 75 year old husband and my nephew. These guys might have been in their late 20s and that caused a lot of laughter. I took the golf cart back to mom's but after a couple hours went to find Mark to find out when he wanted to eat. He was walking back from the wood pile to get a 5 gallon container of diesel fuel so was glad for a golf cart ride to get the fuel and take it back to the tractor.
He asked if we would mind eating at 1:00 pm as he wanted to work on the log pile for at least another hour. Aunt Jinnie and mom thought that would be fine as they had a late breakfast. At 12:15 pm the food was ordered. Mark picked it up and had it to the house a little after 1:00 pm. We ordered 2 of the tenderloin specials to split between mom, Karin, Mark and Taegan and Aunt Jinnie ordered a cheese burger which is picture below after she took one bite.
That was big the but tenderloins were as big as a plate. We passed those around and each cut off a nice portion.
There was still left overs to take home for our supper tonight. After lunch I left to buy some wild rice mix at Kroger. Aldi no longer carries that. I also stopped at Aldi to pick up salad stuff and fruit for tomorrow's meal. On the way back I stopped at our neighbor's house to pick up 4 dozen eggs. He sent a text asking if I wanted them. One dozen was taken to Rhonda's house, one dozen was taken to mom's house and I kept the other 2 dozen. I stopped to talk to another one of our guests as he was admiring the mares and foals. He used to live in Puerto Rico and had Paso Fino horses. Of course we had to talk about their special all show and no go gait. It turned out these 4 guys are working for Ameren and told me if they are working in the area again they would love to come back. I've met 3 of the 4 and those 3 love the horses. Mike went to Middle Grove to check on Aiken. She is due the middle of May but she is starting to bag up. We will need to pick her up on Monday.
Below is the video Mike sent of her udder.
Blueberry is losing weight nursing her big foal. I'm having trouble graining her as she is the low mare in her group. Neither Rosalie and Rosaleigh need grain so even if I put some in each of the buckets they walk right over and eat Blueberry's. Blueberry is not happy in a different paddock away from those 2 mares so I may have to figure out how to lock them in the pasture each day while she is fed in the paddock. Thoroughbred mares are not like Friesians. They need a lot more calories to stay in good condition.
