Another Frigid Day

We cancelled the walk this morning, it was below zero with wind chills at 19 below. One of the waterers was frozen again. The knob is missing so it may not be turned up enough to work in this type of weather OR it isn't rated strong enough to keep up in this below zero weather. We should be getting a warm up soon. Mike has been going out every day to check on the herd at Middle Grove praying each time before he gets there that the waterer there will be working. The ice now is so thick on the lakes it would be awful to try use that for drinking water.
No training was done today, again it was just too cold.  The horses seem to be handling the cold well.
Galena is pictured above and Anna is pictured below. Galena is expecting her first foal, due April 9th.  Anna is the first mare due again. Last year she delivered March 28th, but was 10 days late. This year she is due March 19th.

Ayanna and Anna are pictured above, Ayanna is due April 23rd.  Rosalie is pictured below and she is due April 6th.  We love foaling season but it can get very hectic.
The first thing on my list to do today was to call Hoerr vet clinic and schedule Dr. Hoerr to come out to draw blood for the coggins test on all the horses going to the fair this year. We are bringing 10 of them from here. Anna, Ayanna, Evan, Galena, Indy, Jenis, Oksana, Darla, Rosalie and Zalena. Amy Koch is bringing Mocha. The next phone call made was to the Drury Inn to get our hotel rooms reserved. I'm always thrilled to get that job accomplished. I spoke to Josh, the manager who remembered us well. When I got done ordering the rooms he asked, "and what room will Jack Sparrow be staying in?"
I had to laugh and told him Jack isn't coming this year but the guy that PLAYED Jack is coming only as another character. Then I explained we are doing a different play this year. I'm not going to explain what Jack will be this year as I don't want to spoil the surprise. All I can say is the play is going to be epic! lots of action, well known characters and presents, lots of presents.
Speaking of characters, Ruby today was so funny. She is just a tiny dog but thought she could take on Emma's big stuffed dog. She looks all innocent laying on top of that stuffed dog but she wasn't she was ferociously attacking it, grabbing it's ears and trying to shake it.
Of course that toy weighs much more than she does and laying on top of it didn't help either.

This afternoon I went back out to the far paddock and opened up the waterer again. Both Zalena and Jenis drank but not as much as this morning. It stayed open as long as the sun was shining but I'm sure by morning it will again be frozen over. Tomorrow morning the hair dryer will need to be taken out again but by tomorrow afternoon we are to have warming trend so hopefully that will be the last time for a while. Diane and I went over mom's this evening for games. Diane won but not by that much.
