Around the Farm

The golf cart was driven around the farm today for the pleasure of reacquainting the horses with their long lost owners. Thanks to Steven, all of the horses look great and all of the paddocks have hay. We were given the news of Karin's training disaster, she took a fall from a mare in training and was off work for a couple of days but thankfully she is back on her feet. Karin would like to assess the feed program of the horses going to the fair. Steven has done a marvelous job in keeping the horses fit, fat and happy but Karin now feels they are too fit and we need to cut back on the extra calories.
The fire is glowing in the wood burner the apartment is a warm 75 degrees and there is snow coming down steady outside. Both the washer and dryer are busy. One of the mares have just come wandering over from the cabin field to flirt with Raven. She looks like Sally one of our Tennessee Walkers. If it is Sally, she was in the cabin field this morning so there may be a board down or a gate left open over there and so far she must be the only horse that discovered it.
The lady in charge of the youth judging at the IL Horse Fair asked if we would allow our Friesians to be judged again and was given the bad news we are only bringing 3 of the 2009 horses and 3 mature mares. She is checking to see if they want the 2 stallions and 2 mares as we don't have 4 the same age.
Rachel and David spent 2 days at the cottage at Middle Grove and reported the creek is still open and the horses there look great. We will need to bring Lily home soon, she is due in March which is right around the corner. Ayanna is almost 2 years old and should also come back for some training. Perhaps Mike can take the trailer out next time he goes to check on the horses and bring those 2 back.
TSC must be visited to purchase bedding as Bow must be weaned this week. We will not be taking her to the fair, there is no room in the trailer. We will keep Ayanna with her in the stall area, then once she is weaned she and Ayanna can go back out to Middle Grove.
