Mystery Solved.

On Friday we had someone book the apartment for Saturday and Sunday. The booking was just for 1 man and no pets. I told Anna on Saturday evening it would probably be an easy clean up. After all how bad could one person leave the apartment?  I sent him all of the check in instructions on Friday. Then on Saturday morning sent the message that the apartment was ready for him at anytime and he would not need to wait for the 3:00 pm check-in if he was in the area. When we got home from Rhoda's house Saturday evening we drove up to the apartment to see if the guest had arrived and saw that he had not. Mark woke up at 1:30 am and walked to the wood burner to add wood when he saw out the window a car trying to come up the drive. The car must not have had good tires, it took a few tries going up, sliding back then trying again. It did make it up but there were 5 other cars right behind him. Those 5 had no problems getting up the hill, must have had good tires or all wheel drive.  Before the last of those 6 made it up the hill another 6 cars had arrived. All of them also made it up the hill. He was shocked as it was supposed to be just ONE person. About 4:00 am he saw all 12 cars leave. In the morning he told me about it. I took the golf cart up to see if there were any other cars there but there were none. I didn't look in the windows in case there was someone sleeping there but could tell the lights were on. Mark checked the temperature of the apartment on the app on his phone and was shocked to find they had turned the air conditioner on and it was down to 61 degrees inside. No one should EVER run the air conditioner in the winter time that is really hard on a compressor. He changed the thermostat to heat and set it to 62 thinking when who ever was in there would up the heat once they woke up. We left for church but when we got home the apartment was exactly as this morning. Still no cars in the drive, the heat still set on 62 degrees and the same lights on. The apartment was booked for both Saturday and Sunday night so we didn't feel we should knock on the door.  I was telling my family about it at the barn after supper on Sunday and all of them thought something really bad could have happened at the apartment with those 12 cars arriving then leaving a couple hours later. Something like illegal drugs being sold or even human trafficking. This morning my imagination was just a little out of control and telling me, Probably the reason the air conditioner was turned on was to keep the smell down from the dead bodies piled up inside. Even though check out is officially 11:00 am by 10:00 am I asked Mark to come with me to check. We took the golf cart to the back door. I slowly opened that door and was hit with a terrible smell. About then noticed the bedroom door was shut. After yelling, "hello, anyone in here?" and no one answering I pushed the bedroom door open.

The closet door had been pulled off the track and the track bent, the bed had either vomit or diarrhea all over the comforter, blankets, and sheets. The towel had been used to try to clean it up and was covered in it too. When we walked into the living area, again we were shocked. The table cloth had been bunched up on the table and a bottle of some kind of alcohol had been spilled all over. It was soaking wet with the sodden cards and the remnants of  what looked like home made cigars but I think they were probably marijuana leaves.
I picked up the table cloth and moved that to the sink. Below is what the table looked like after the alcohol ate off the finish of the table.
Below is a close up of the table top.
Mark started helping with the garbage. There was a lot of garbage. There were boxes and bottles of alcohol, the reefer buts scattered on the floor and furniture. There were ashes everywhere and the smell overwhelming.
They had used the granite counter top to put their home made reefers out.
Those butts were in every room, and even on the bedspread of the futon. The futon armrest was broken.
The rug in the other room not only had ashes and butts in it, it was also burned.
Then I noticed the kitchen lights. They had been pulled enough to loosen the fixture. They had not pulled that off the wall.
When we walked into the bathroom, we noticed the light fixture above the mirror was broken and there were two holes in the drywall.
We spent some time hauling the garbage outside and on to the golf cart.
I took the garbage over to the dumpster while Mark plugged in an extension cord in the breeding shed so we could put a heater in the pit. That got done before going down to the house as it is going to be below zero tomorrow with 20 below windchills and we don't want any of the waterers freezing up. Tatiana was put in with Jewel, Oliver and Star.

By then my hands were pretty frozen, it was 8 degrees outside and I had gloves on but had just been outside too long. The table cloth was brought down here to wash in the washer as it had so much alcohol spilled on it and that was mixed with ashes from their smoking. That was run through the washer then hung outside to dry to help get ride of the smell.
It froze before it could dry. I went in to contact airbnb about the apartment and was messaging them when Anna called to tell me to NEVER rent to this person again. I told her I was working right then with airbnb. She took the laundry home to start that then brought Braelyn back to help. The smell was still so bad that when Braelyn came in to get the Febreeze she stunk too. They worked with the window open but who knows how long it is going to take to get rid of that smell. I need to get receipts together before I can request a resolution and then I have to try to collect the damages from the renter first before airbnb will step in. So this afternoon I spent some time on Amazon. Anyway the mystery was solved on why the guy rented the apartment. It wasn't for selling of drugs or human trafficking, it was for a drinking drug party.
Other news, Ruth and I went to mom's this morning instead of walking. Ruth told us about her trip to Ohio. Fedi was asked to speak on Saturday to the Rittman and Smithville churches about Romania and then again on Sunday to the Sunday school. She said it was God honoring and went well. Joan and her kids built a snowman for mom.
Each year, mom and Joan would have a competition on who could make the first snowman of the year. This year mom told Joan, I concede.
