Only One

Ruth and I walked today, Joan was busy. We tromped through the snow to check waterers and was pleased all were open. The paddocks I thought would need bales moved in by today still have enough at least until tomorrow. This is really good as the thermometer is supposed to start rising tomorrow all the way up to 20 degrees. The machines start easier when it isn't so bitter cold. After the walk I drove to Sam's Club to buy meat then cleaned out and organized the freezer.  Pictured below is Xena, the only horse we gave up on. We bought her knowing she had been to many trainers and all said she could not be trained. Her sire was Flurry, a beautiful Friesian stallion standing at Thunder Valley Stables.

We had always admired Flurry and decided that Xena would make a great cross with Raven and of course WE could train her.  Well that just didn't work, WE could not train her, this mare would explode the minute anyone mounted her. After months of working with her, laying across her back, gaining her trust it was time to put Rhoda on her. Xena waited until she was mounted then went straight up into the air violently bucking and rearing. Rhoda bailed while exclaiming, "you are trying to kill me!" Xena had a filly for us we named Lyra.
Lyra was sold but we still had to decide what to do with Xena. We have a rule here that all horses must do double duty as in have a foal and be able to be ridden so Xena was placed for sale with a strong warning that she would be a brood mare ONLY. She was so beautiful and had good ground manners so it didn't take long for someone to buy her as a brood mare only, although I heard later they were going to try to train her to drive.
We picked up mom for church, Craig Stickling had the message on Paul's 3rd journey in Acts. Craig had so much to share that this message I've downloaded it and posted it hear to listen to again.
I am so thankful for church. It was snowing tonight on the way home and is currently 14 degrees but is supposed to drop back down to single digits.
