Early Valentines Gifts

Another COLD morning, the temps still in single digits plus a breeze made for a short walk. Mom came for the first time since she has been home from Gulf Shores. The ice is covered with snow that is not as dangerous as the ice but the wind chills were so bad we couldn't stay out long.

It is so cold Diane and Mike are leaving for Gulf Shores in the morning. The rest of us just have to stay here and suffer.  More wood was brought in and the wood burners kept burning. Anna came after the girls were in school to get the apartment ready for the guests coming in tonight. She had to shovel the snow away from the apartment along with putting in the cookies and sweeping up anything tracked in by people using the bathroom.  I made a big pot of chili today which will be served on Sunday. Chili just seems to fit this weather. Mom fell again! She has decided that she will be walking with a walker from now on but first her hand must heal. She fell face down and her glasses cut her nose but the worst injury was how bruised and sore her left hand is. She is left handed.  Dan and Susan took her to Gils fir dinner. Mark came home with a surprise for me a couple days early. He brought flowers AND candy along with the note: Even though the hay is a much more practical gift, being a commodity it is not very personal and associated with work. I'm trying the shotgun approach with a few flowers and flowers and candy which are not associated with work in an effort to communicate that I love and value you for who you are,  not for what you do!

How sweet is that!  He really is a good man, he has to be to put up with me.  It is 4 degrees right now but feels like -12 and the thermometer will continue to drop all night and all day tomorrow with more snow showers. Sunday's high here is supposed to get all the way up to -1 but according to weather.com NEXT Saturday we are supposed to get up to freezing. Just 8 more days of this polar vortex.
