Email from Kres

Hi Judy, I just wanted to touch base with you and let you know that Belle is doing well and the long wait is almost over! She should be having the foal towards the end of June. We didn't have many problems, but Belle did have mild colic a few times. Our vet said that was fairly common with pregnant horses, from the foal pressing on internal organs. But that was all. Now she's big and glossy and happy for spring. I will keep you up to date and don't be surprised if I call you in a panic at some point to get advice!!! Thanks and we are really looking forward to the birth, Kres Monday...... Just curious, anyone out there have their pregnant mares colic? The only time we had a horse colic when pregnant was Lily but she wasn't far enough along for the fetus to be pressing on anything. We have had a mare colic after delivery, in fact we keep banamine on hand as that is fairly common but have not seen a heavily pregnant mare in pain, if anything they are low key and content. They stand around all sleepy eyed munching at the round bale. Belle is a big Percheron cross mare, we didn't see her in the flesh, this was one of the mares we shipped semen to last year. We will be thrilled to see the pictures when the foal is born. We have a clear cool morning 44 degrees out on our outside thermometer. Today is our youngest daughters 22nd birthday. Sarah lives in Bloomington, IL while attending ISU. She is studying to be a special ed teacher. A few of us are heading to Bloomington today to lunch with our birthday girl. Our youngest grandson turns 1 tomorrow and he also lives in Bloomington with his parents and big sister Addyson so of course we will head right to Ben and Taunya's house first. Anna and Braelyn are coming along too but Anna has an ultrasound scheduled back in Peoria at 4:00 and must be home in time. Today we may find out if Phil and Anna are having a boy or girl, that is if they are telling.
