Karin wanted to leave early this morning as she was going to help Jackie celebrate her birthday. I did not take the cream over to make butter as that needed to be room temperature before churning. I just took it out of the fridge and let it sit on the counter until I could get home. Karin had just refilled the bird feeder when I arrived and within minutes a bright red male cardinal arrived on mom's deck to start eating the sunflower seeds.
I told mom about Jackie's 3rd egg hatching. (the bald eagle not my niece) Mom wanted to see the 3 eagle chicks. We went on youtube to find FOBBY FriendsOfBigBearValley Click HERE if you would like to see the video of the chicks. A bit later Joan had company and they came walking over for a visit.
I'm not sure why they are all looking down it was still too cold to find any worms on the drive. When they arrived Berlica, the 2 boys and I took the golf cart over to my house. Daxton, Mackenson's dog, was running a fever and it looked like he had infection starting. Berlica took the boys to see the horses while I gathered up 3 syringes, 3 needles and a partial bottle of Gentamiacin. Dr. Hoerr told her to give 1.3 cc once a day for 3 days. After they left Diane stopped in and put a new glass screen protector on mom's phone. Karin arrived back so I left for Aldi to pick up the ingredients to make the dessert for tomorrow's meal. Aldi was out of some of the ingredients needed so I also went to Kroger and found them there. They were more expensive but at least they HAD them. When I got back it was time to make the butter. I poured the heavy cream into a gallon size jar and started shaking. I was wishing for my old Daisy butter churn about then because it took longer and was harder without that. As soon as it turned I used a brand new washed knee high, placed that on jar and poured everything into that knee high. As soon as it drained it was taken out of the jar and cold water run over it while squeezing all the liquid out. The butter was dropped into a bowl and a half a teaspoon of salt was worked into that. It was then formed into a butter ball. Mark was given a bit on a cracker to try it out and pronounced it good.
The buttermilk was strained into another jar. That will be used for baking tomorrow.
That was put in the fridge and then it was time to leave for the Pancake Supper. The Sunday school Bible class was holding that at the fellowship hall. It started at 4:00 pm and we got there the same time as Joan, mom and all of Joan's kids. Below are a few pictures of the evening.
It was VERY well attended, people kept pouring in the entire time we were there. They were also selling items from Bangladesh to help raise money for the mission there. Mark picked out two dish towels. By the time we left, the parking lot was full and there were still cars coming. Those cooks were cooking pancakes as fast as they could and did amazingly well keeping up with the crowd. Mark and I took Mackenson home. I still needed to make the dessert for tomorrow and also needed to make sure Valiant had enough hay to make it through the night. His bale was getting low. I pulled the hog panel out and saw he had plenty. The guests staying in the foaling apartment called to report they were locked out. The brand new electronic lock somehow failed. I told them how to get in the back door. We will fix the lock tomorrow. The dessert was just now finished and put outside for the night. I didn't want it to freeze so put it on an insulated coat and covered it with another insulated coat. This will keep it cold but not frozen. Tomorrow morning when I take the meat out there will be room in the fridge for it. It was a beautiful sunny day with a high of 52 degrees.
So glad to see the nice picture of my Uncle Chuck and cousin Jane!!
