Pulling Hair

Diane, Ruth and I walked today. Mom and Joan are still down in Gulf Shores, AL. I quit after the first round in order to get to the Berean office in time. This is my last Tuesday to volunteer there for a while. I still need to go in tomorrow to enter the Bible labels. To read about our morning there click HERE. The car thermometer was reading 93 degrees on the way home. I checked the monitor and the stalls were still empty so I drove right up to the barn to put the mares and foals in and turn the air conditioner on.  Sangria's filly is just too young to be outside in this kind if heat. Rhoda had Roxanne and her colt in the barn and was braiding manes. She had already finished Rosaleigh's. We found out Rosaleigh is stall aggressive. She tried to bite Rhoda, then threw herself backward believing she was going to be disciplined. This was a first for us and something we will work on. Rhoda took her into the round pen, worked her until she she wanted to stand then braided her hair. If she moved away she was asked to work again.
As long as Roxanne's colt was in the stall we decided to pull hair for the registry and get the papers sent out today for the 4 foals now born that still need to be registered. Rhoda named Roxanne's colt Dublin, Oksana's filly Darla, Indy's filly is named Envy and now Sangria's filly is named Edith's Serenity. Each foal had hair pulled, the paper work was all filled out and sent in today. We still have 2 foals to register from 2017 crop. Easter Lilly's foal due in November and Sheena's filly which is not for sale. We are naming her Ella Skye after Mike and Diane's grand daughter. Since we need to send in at least 3 at a time we will wait on those two until next year.  Rhoda took Roxanne out to the round pen to work on her under saddle instructions.

 Dublin had a ball running around too so I got a few shots of him to update the website. He was 2 months old yesterday. He is really going to be a stunner when he grows up.

 He was curious about Ruby but check out the feather on this colt. He is going to be very hairy if he is already showing that much feather at just 2 months of age. 

 Ruby wasn't impressed. She is such a well behaved dog, Rhoda would tell her to sit and she would sit waiting for the next command. 

 Both Rhoda and Karin finish the training session with trick training. Below she has asked Roxanne for a bow and was also asking her to hold it. 

 They both got sprayed off as it was just so very hot. Dublin wasn't sure he liked that. 

 Below Rhoda is taking them back to the paddock.

 Oksana was taken out next and teased. She said no so now is finished with her foal heat. We only got her covered once, we will need to wait a couple weeks to see if that was enough. Next out was Titiana and she was still showing so covered by Valiant. The last job I wanted to do today was to get a few pictures of Sangria's filly. She is so tall and elegant looking. The pictures below really don't do her justice. 

 Rhoda applied more iodine to her cord but it seems nice and dry.

Tomorrow the weather is suppose to be cooler. I'll try to get some better pictures outside. She really is spectacular. I didn't put them outside until after 6:00 pm when it was finally starting to cool down. They were both fly sprayed then let out. The stalls were cleaned, the barn air conditioner turned off, along with the fans and the lights and now I should be done with stalls for a while as long as it doesn't rain.

They are well socialized, fat adorable playful puppies. They are not registered and will not come with papers but will come with their shots and de-worming. They were born Sept 2nd, 2017 and can be reserved now with half down and half due at pickup.These are family raised puppies and NOT from a puppymill. They will have a good start on puppy pottie training. 
Pugs often are described as a lot of dog in a small space. These sturdy, compact dogs are a part of the American Kennel Club’s Toy group, and are known as the clowns of the canine world because they have a great sense of humor and like to show off. Originally bred to be a lap dog, the Pug thrives on human companionship.

Air Conditioned Barn

I am very thankful for our air conditioned barn today. Even before noon, the thermometer climbed over 90 degrees. Sangria and her new filly by Valiant were brought inside along with Oksana and her filly by Evan and the air turned on. I snapped the picture below with my phone after getting them inside. Her owner got the pictures and decided to name her Edith's Serenity after her mom.

Rhoda arrived while I was up at the barn. She brought along Ruby's 5 day old puppies. The two male puppies are now sold leaving just the female puppy still for sale. This puppy is a PugaPoo born Sept 20th, 2017 and is for sale for only $550.00. Isn't she adorable.

She was totally bored with the pictures and let out a big yawn. 

We decided today we would braid up Titiana's mane and tail then start her undersaddle. Taegan came along to help with the braiding but of course needed to pet the new foals first. Sangria didn't want to share her filly with someone that small and pinned her ears at her so out we went, but Oksana was more than willing to let Taegan come in and pet her filly. Oksana's filly by Evan is 13 days old today.

 She is just huge for her age, towering over Taegan who is actually very tall for her age of 4 years.  Below Taegan is scratching the filly's rump. 

 Taegan got to sit on Oksana while we were busy cleaning the stall. 

Next out was Titiana, all braided up.

She was tossing those braids into the air like Killian use to do. Rhoda brought out the saddle while Taegan carried Rhoda's helmet and Titiana's bridle.

 We were impressed with how well Titiana did her very first time with a rider. 

Rhoda kept this lesson short and sweet. The mare did everything she was asked to do without a fuss. 

 She was taken into the barn, asked to bow then given a cool shower. 

She was taken right over to Valiant's breeding stand and covered by him. She stood well. By this time it was really hot outside and we still needed to move 4 bales. The middle paddock got 2 bales, Valiant's paddock got a new bale and the weanling paddock got a new bale. It sounds so easy but is kind of a hard job making sure the net wrap is off the bale and the bale is wrapped well with the hog panel before moving it inside the paddock shelter.  We were tying the rope around the hog panel and I had all my weight into it to make it snug when the rope broke and I went flying, landing on my rear end. Glad that area is far from the heart. We went in to cool off a bit and took more puppy pictures. Below are the 2 male puppies. They are already sold. The three pictures below are of the largest puppy, he is a brindle male with white on his chest. 

 Below is the smallest puppy, he is a dark brindle. Not that he is a runt, he is just a bit smaller than the other 2. 

Ruby is taking very good care of her puppies. I was ready to quit for the day but Rhoda still wanted to work with Tori. Today she wanted to ride her in the field, then take her on a trail ride by herself to see if she would be herd bound. Tori did amazing, perfectly behaved and no calling for the other horses even when Rhoda took her away from the farm.

Sure was a hot busy day. Cooler days are coming but not tomorrow. That will be another hot day. 

Sangria Has a FILLY!

Sangria delivered a big black filly this morning around 5:30 am. The first few pictures she has just learned to stand and is still wet.

She has a tiny offset star. The next two pictures were after she dried off. She is a big strong filly, already nursing well. She was born HUNGRY!

 By 8:30 am (three hours after birth) it was already too hot outside and they were taken into the stall. 

She is beautiful, will be tall and we believe will stay black as the only gray Sangria threw was born pitch black with brown on her flanks. So thankful all is well. I am waiting for the placenta to be delivered and Rhoda to arrive so we can get some iodine on her cord. The filly is a typical Valiant daughter. She is sweet and already likes people. This filly is already spoken for.
