Indian Camp

 Today was the first day of Indian camp but just for the 2 and 3 year olds. Joan separated them this year.  

She had just 5. They put up a teepee, made drums, fishing poles, fished and each caught fish, they made Indian necklaces with beads and Joan was very thankful for help with them. I only got to see the last of today's Indian camp as I left for Berean before it started. If you would like to see the pictures from Berean click HERE. On the way home from Berean I stopped at Sam's Club to pick up 2 full size water proof mattress pads for the FSX trailer bunks and one gel pad mattress pad for the queen bunk as I thought after sleeping on that it needed something more. This evening those were put on and I am pleased with how they all worked. I also picked up 'bear bones' for Thursday's evening meal for Indian camp. 6 big racks of bear rib bones covered in sweet murder hornet honey sauce. Thankful Sam's club carries those. Later the mares were teased and no showing yet. Jury and her colt were brought into the breeding shed paddock. Jury was de-wormed with Quest plus except she wasn't going to have that done to her and was rearing to get away from it. After about a half hour I got it in but not sure exactly  how much she actually swallowed so am going to do that again today but use a Safeguard. Her colt is really something, well put together and is such a show-off. His owner is going to be very pleased.

Hadassah's filly was yawning and more than ready for bed except I was there keeping them up by walking around snapping pictures.

Galena is in the middle paddock with Rosaleigh and as soon as she saw me started moseying up to the gate.

It was getting dark so the camera was put down, the chores finished and more than time to head inside. Mark got his own supper tonight as I was busy working on the trailers.

Galena's Appointment

 It was raining this morning during our walk time. Joan used the canoe and paddled over to mom's while applying dye to the lake then joined Ruth, Diane, mom and I inside at mom's. At 7:50 am Mark needed a ride to Zane's to pick up his car and as soon as I got back from that I grabbed a halter for Galena, hooked up the 2 horse trailer and left for Middle Grove hoping it was not raining there. It was just lightly sprinkling when I arrived and the ground was dry enough that I could drive right in and up to the round pen. The horses were almost all inside the round pen napping with just Galena and Rosaleigh standing outside. Irish was first to see the truck and trailer and came right out to greet me followed by her colt then Mayberry and Jewel's 2020 filly.

Irish's colt is such a sweet heart. He loves attention from people and followed me everywhere. Mayberry was a little stand-offish and that is why Mike keeps a break a way halter on her. She will stand still if we are holding the halter and let me check her over. Jewel's filly would stick her nose in the halter if I asked. She also let me check her all over.  The next job was to check udders. As Indy was standing in the middle I went right to her first.  

She is due July 15th and is not bagged up. I took a few pictures of Rosalie's filly for her owner.

Above Rosalie is making sure Sally is not bothering her filly. Sally loves this filly and hangs around her. Below the filly is grooming Indy while Rosalie looks on. The filly is doing very well in the herd. 

She obviously tromps into the lake for a drink as her front legs are muddy.

Next I went out to check Rosaleigh's udder and found that she is very bagged up. She is due July 4th but I didn't feel comfortable leaving her and only brought one halter which was Galena's. Galena was haltered, loaded and tied and I used the lead rope wrapped around Rosaleigh's neck to lead her into the trailer then took off for home. The trail riders were here getting horses out for a trail ride. Karin helped get a halter on Rosaleigh then put her in the middle paddock while I shut the trailer door, got in the truck and headed for Hoerr Vet clinic.  We arrived there, blood was drawn, I paid the bill and was on my way home within minutes. When I got back the trail riders were getting ready to take the riding horses back to the cabin field. They were taken 4 at a time with the golf cart and Karin took the other 2 with her car. Below is Mika, Ripper, Missy and Oksana. Ripper looks brown as he had just had a good roll in the sand of the indoor arena. 

Faith and Mackenson came over with mowers and got the mowing done today.

After everyone left I started teasing. Hadassah and Tatiana are now out.  Soul, Lola and Jury all said no also so right now we have none in. Lily, Soul, Hadassah, and Tatiana hopefully all settled while Lola was not covered on her foal heat and I'm teasing Lola and Jury for the second heat. Madiera and Jewel are not yet in their foal heat. This evening I worked on the vacation pictures.

Above and below are tanks and tanks of trout, the kids were all given quarters to buy fish food and were having fun feeding them.

Made It Home

 We made it home around 12:30 and spent the next hour unpacking in the heat. It is hot here and in the house as the air conditioner was turned off. Poor Emma was hot while we were gone. She was very glad to see us and probably even more glad for the air conditioner.  The kids started to arrive before everything was finished and brought supper with them. We had 26 for dinner tonight. Ron came, All 13 grandchildren, all 10 children, and Mark and I.

After supper we celebrated Jack, Jace and Israel's birthdays.

Then we went to the playground for volley ball.

After the games the kids got the court.

There was swimming, canoeing, fishing, golf cart rides, horse rides. After everyone left the riding horses were taken over to the cabin field. Mike thinks the fence is now fixed. Lily and her filly were turned out into the field next to Evan and Hadassah, Lola and Jury along with their 3 foals were let into the back field. All 4 foals exploded running, bucking, kicking out then running some more. They were all so excited to get outside. No pictures it was getting dark and I didn't have my camera.  It is much too late and I am too tired to work on the pictures of our camping trip. Hopefully I'll have time tomorrow. Thankful for a safe journey home, beautiful weather the entire time we were there and the fun times with family. 

 

Our Fun Camping Trip

 We have no cell service and cannot get texts here at Montauk but, was able to use Facebook Messenger. At home Karin and Isaiah got Hadassah covered by Evan and are going to tease Tatiana and if she is still in cover her to Valiant. Here we took a nice long canoe ride. They saw an abandoned hospital with a huge spring in it that people would come to heal themselves by breathing the air in the cave. Asthmatics came from all over. The hospital itself is built into a cliff around the spring. The doctor that discovered this and started it had an untimely death three years later. 

Our group were able to climb up a waterfall and and jump off cliffs.

They saw a river otter. They had fun taking a canoes down the Rapids that made them go three times faster. The canoe trip lasted almost 4 hours to go 8 Miles the scenery was beautiful. The entire River was crystal clear they could see everything all the way to the bottom. After the canoe trip they played lots of softball and Frisbee and road bikes for hours. We ended the day with a steak dinner then ice cream for dessert. Today we drove to the Hatchery and saw lots of trout thousands of trout growing in different stages and we fed them.

We went on a hike that was 3 miles and labeled difficult and it really was difficult, and down hills.

Everyone made it even William and Joshua. Joshua saw a box turtle and Israel caught it.  William swung on a vine we called him Tarzan. After the hike we sat down at a playground and found ticks on our socks and then on our bodies lots of little ticks so we spent time taking ticks off each other. Joan's group ate lunch then loaded up the motorhome and took off for home. Everyone here left for fishing. Tonight we will grill hamburgers hot dogs and brats and have s'mores and ice cream for dessert this has been a good trip.

Montauk State Park

 A lot needed to be done before heading out this morning so we didn't start our drive until until 9:38 am. We had a good trip until the very end. The GPS took us on a small gravel service road. A ranger saw us, took pity on us and led us to the right area. Phil and Anna arrived a couple hours later and right behind them was the motor home with Joan's group of 8.  We arranged to rent 6 canoes tomorrow,  picked up wood and made chicken teriyaki and wild rice for supper. David starting pitching the softball for the kids. We ended the day with S'mores around the camp fire. Below is a short video of just a few of the activities

Tatiana and Hadassah

 I went out early to put Jewel and her less than 12 hour colt in the indoor arena but that meant first kicking Madiera and her colt out of the arena. Those two were put in the field behind Hadassah and Tatiana's paddock. Below is Madiera's colt by Evan.

Tatiana was over flirting with Evan. She is finally in her foal heat.

She was pulled out and covered by Valiant. I ran in to make Mark breakfast then left for the walk. All 3 of the geese pairs with their 15 goslings were in the retention pond over by Joan's house on the walk but when I got back and went to work they were back in my pond.

Today I had to move 2 bales in for the far paddock, a bale in Ribbon's old paddock and a bale in the middle paddock. We are leaving tomorrow morning for Montauk State park for a canoe trip and need to make sure there is plenty of hay in while we are gone. Isaiah is going to stay at the apartment taking care of Emma and the horses. I left for Sam's club to purchase the food for the trip and when I got back the trail riders were tacking up the horses. Anna was here dropping off laundry for the apartment so her girls stayed. Braelyn rode Cookie on the trails with the other riders while Kensley and Taegan came with me in the truck to pick up the trailer we are taking. They helped direct me and as soon as we had that trailer here we unhooked it from the truck, changed the hitch to a 2 inch ball, hooked up the Wolf Pup and drove that over to Phil and Anna's house for packing. The next job was to fill the truck with gas. I also stopped at Dollar General to pick up some bowls and pans to take on the trip. The 3 girls helped me pack the trailer. Anna took the girls home so I started moving horses. I needed to have the 4 youngest foals and their dams in the far paddock so they could have the pond pasture for shade while we are gone. When I got them moved I noticed Hadassah went right over to Valiant's paddock and started flirting. I didn't have time to cover her right then but after church got her covered by Evan. This afternoon I took pictures of the 4 mares and foals in the pond pasture mostly for the website.   Below  are a few.

Finally Jewel's Turn

Last night Mark went to bed by 8:00 and was up by 3:00 am. He started the coffee and checked the monitor and of course there was no foal. At 6:00 am I went out to move Madiera and her colt out of the stall and into the indoor arena then brought Jewel out, checked her udder and she was for sure waxing so I was pretty sure she would deliver tonight. She was put in a paddock then I left for the walk. Molly got lost today on the walk so Diane and Ruth went towards Joan's house while I went to the barn looking for her. She was at the barn looking for mom. I took her back on the golf cart then got ready to leave for Berean. Mom and I left a little early to stop at Dollar General for a jar of grape jelly for the birds then Casey's for fresh baked donuts for the Berean workers. IF you would like to read about our morning there click HERE. As soon as the Berean work was finished mom and I drove to Red Lobster where we met Amy for her birthday dinner. We haven't been out to eat there for a long time. The cheddar biscuits are just as good as we remembered. I ordered a cup of clam chowder and that was really delicious. From there we went to mom's doctor appointment to have the wound on her leg checked. That is healing well and mom was in and out of there within 15 minutes. From there we went to B & L trailer supplies to try to buy a kitchen faucet but they didn't have what we needed in stock with no hope of getting it in. They recommended a hardware store so after dropping the Bibles off at the Bartonville post office we drove up the hill to Bartonville hardware. An older man working there named Greg was very helpful and recommended what he thought would work. Mom and I made it home by 2:45 pm and I had 15 minutes to check the horses before heading back over to mom's to meet Karin and Jackie for games. We got done around 4:45 and I quickly ran straight to the barn to let Jewel out in the big field with Lily and her filly before heading inside to make supper. Since Jewel was going to be locked up again for the night in a stall I wanted her to have some grazing time. Mark took all 3 sets of trailer keys to Nena True Value to have copies made of each key. Those were organized and  put in the key box. I went out around 8:30 to bring Jewel in and found her way down at the bottom of the hill cleaning up a black stud colt. Mike was called to help bring them in. We used the golf cart as this is a very large colt. Once they were in the stall Iodine was placed on the cord. He is a strong fellow with big bones and a long thick curly tail. 

He found the milk bar pretty quickly.

After nursing and walking around he laid back down for a nap. 

I headed back to the house to work on the blogs but have been watching him on the monitor. He jumps up about every 15 minutes to nurse. He is a hungry boy!

I'm VERY thankful for another safe delivery and a healthy colt. Ten down and two to go. Just Rosaleigh and Indy are left. Both are bred to Evan and both are due in July so we should have a little break.
