We had a cold wet dreary day. Mark and I went over to the barn early this morning, as soon as it was light to get a few last minute things done. The first thing we needed to do was put on our ice tracks. The drives were a sheet of ice. It wasn't thick ice but was very slippery. Even the rocks by the barn were slippery. We put caution tape around the construction mess in the upstairs then Mark moved the lift over. He wanted the key out and just so I don't forget where we put the key I took a picture of it.

Cold Damp Dreary
The group coming in this morning is a family from Princeville. Mark went to pick up Mackenson and counted 29 cars parked around the barn. My job today was laundry and food preparation for tomorrow. I rolled bacon around 102 little smokies then sprinkled some brown sugar on top.
Tomorrow those will be cooked in the oven while heating up some of the other appetizers we are serving. I think we are going to have a nice crowd for the superbowl party. If anyone wants to come just bring a dish to share. Mark and Mackenson took the last of the camper tires that needed to be balanced off. Mark will take those to Riekers on Monday. Once that job was done they loaded up the rest that soft maple wood from the tree in our yard and hauled that over to Joan's house. It was cut in too big of lengths to fit in either of our wood burners but Joan has 2 large fireplaces inserts and can use them. Mike moved bales in at Middle Grove and came back a little worried about one of his Thoroughbred mares and Sangria. The TB mare he was worried about is Aiken, her coat just looked rough compared to the other mares. She is not thin so I think she is ok. He said Sangria is walking a little slow so he took her a big pile of hay separate from the other horses and gave that to her. Sangria really is showing her age. Lily on the other had is still the boss. She claims the best hay and if another mare comes near, she pins her ears and they all back right off. This afternoon we had a flock of birds show up in our yard to graze. They were right outside our window so I got a close up of some of them.
Notice the clothes line in the video below. That is ice dotting along the rope.
When Mark came in from working he was chilled to the bone. That damp cold is hard on our old bones. He was very glad for the wood burner today. It wasn't terribly colt but didn't get much above 32 degrees all day. We will have an early night tonight.
