Prayers for Fedi

The cold strikes. The temperature started dropping during the night and kept dropping all day today.  Mom has been having problems with her left leg contracting so much it is causing a lot of pain. The Palliative care nurse practitioner ordered a muscle relaxer and she was given a pill yesterday afternoon and another this morning. This morning those muscle relaxers kicked in and mom was feeling pretty mellow. It also stopped her leg from drawing up.  The bathroom light in mom's house quit working so Spark was called. He arrived with a new ballast and new lightbulbs. It was so dark in the bathroom that both Diane and Joan needed to use the flashlights on their phones for Spark to see what needed to be done.

When the old was off and the new ballast and bulbs in the lights were turned on and they worked. Faith was cleaning the fixture in the laundry room.
She brought that over and wala, the bathroom had light!
At 9:30 am mom was put in the reclining wheel chair and taken out to the garage and put into the wheel chair van for the trip to the dentist.  Today was her appointment to finish with her implants. They had been paid for so for sure they were going to be put in.  Her appointment was at 10:00 am and all was going well until we got to Route 9. A train was crossing the road and came to a stop too soon so the gates wouldn't lift to let the cars across.
We were stuck in traffic for about 10 minutes. Mom was feeling a little woozy and wondered if the van was leaking carbon monoxide. Joan got out to check the tail pipe but all was well.  Even with the train delay Joan got us to the dentist 3 minutes early.  The wheel chair parking spot was already taken so Joan had to find 2 places together so we would have room to get the ramp down. It was very cold with a wind but mom was pretty well bundled up. Both Joan and I went in to put her on the dentist chair then Joan stayed with mom until all was finished. After we got mom home and settled we needed to take the van up to Zane's to get the tire fixed only the ice was so bad the van started sliding backwards and was heading toward the lake.  The tractor was brought over to pull it out. Below Joan is getting the strap attached to the van.
When the van finally got on solid ground the tractor was put away then my car taken up to pick Joan up.  After we got back I spread a couple buckets of salt to try to melt some of the ice off the driveway so the van could be put in mom's garage once it was back.  After the tire was fixed Karin took Joan back to Zanes to pick up the van.  Today was Fedi's surgery and we had been waiting for an update. That came at 6:30 pm as we were on our way to church.  Poor Fedi!  Ruth writes:  He is done. The doctor said it was very hard oto get the hip implant out. Said he had to break the femur and the hip socket in multiple place. He said the recovery will be painful. The background on this surgery is Fedi needed to have his hip replaced and that surgery went well except it popped out TWICE. It is excruciating painful when that happens and both times Ruth had to call for an ambulance.  The surgeon said that hip must come out and a new one was put in. All should have been well but it wasn't. This second hip became infected.  He was back in the hospital where they were going to open it back up for antibiotics then he had a port put in his arm so they could administer strong antibiotics. That didn't work, the infection got much worse and the only option was to remove the hip and pack the joint with an antibiotic loaded spacer. He will not be able to bear weight on this hip for at least 3 months.   Pray for healing for Fedi.
We have one more big news item. Baby boy Bork (Rhoda and Lee's) was born tonight at 9:01 pm.  Both mom and baby are doing well. Hopefully tomorrow we will get lots of pictures to share.
Rhoda was tested for Covid when she entered the hospital. It wasn't one of those easy tests. They did the nostril thing all the way up to her brain (as Rhoda describes it). She is not sick but tested positive so they are in isolation and she is to wear a mask when anyone comes into the room. Thankfully they let Lee go in with her and Lee reported they let her take the mask off as she was laboring.
