Tori's Colt

It rained and rained last night. Each time I drove to the barn it was raining and this morning the rain kept coming. I was worried enough about the rapid breathing of Tori's colt this morning that Dr. Hoerr was sent a text asking if he could come. He reported back pretty quickly that he would. I didn't go to mom's for the church service but had it on here and listened to Craig Stickling have the senior service for our graduating seniors. At 10:31 Dr. Hoerr sent a text he was headed our way and we live a half hour away so I knew I would be able to listen to the entire service but took the phone out at 11:00 and listened to Tim Funk have the announcements. Mike and Diane arrived the same time Dr. Hoerr pulled in.

The colt was given a good check-up, got his foal shots and a steroid shot to slow down his breathing. Other than his fast breathing the colt was perfect. He is strong, nursing well but panting. I don't know if it was the steroid shot but after a couple hours the breathing became normal and we were out of the woods. The colt is fine. I know there were some people praying and I thank you for those prayers. I took a few pictures for the website. Check out that bushy thick tail in the picture below.

 He is an Evan son and going to have the mega hair. He is also a very friendly fellow leaving his mother and coming to check out the camera.

 He was walking around Tori as she was eating and she dropped hay on his back. He tried to buck it off. He was feeling pretty strong.

 Joan had invited everyone over for church lunch. They still had food out when Dr. Hoerr left so I was able to grab some lunch before coming back here to get ready for Emily and Caleb's shower. It was suppose to be at the playground which left plenty of room for social distancing but the rain was still pouring down. The girls went over to Rachel's to set it up on their big balcony. After the shower the rain stopped and the sun came out.  We had dinner here then Rhoda took Jury out for a trail ride on the 'death trails'. I took a few pictures to post on the website as Rhoda is breeding Jury to Valiant for a Warlander foal.

 Israel came walking over to see if he could ride too.

Rhoda said the creek was so high and rushing that she did not ask Jury to cross it. There was no bank at all showing on the other side so it was at least 5 foot deep. When Rhoda got back we teased Jury and she was in so got her covered by Valiant then took Soul out, teased her and got her covered by Evan. There is standing water and mud everywhere with all this rain and I got splattered pretty good and this was already my second set of clothes. This evening we went over to Sauders campfire where they were roasting their home cured bacon from the pigs we all butchered Saturday and Monday last week. The bacon was WAY better than store bought. We all said it was the best bacon we had ever had.

The kids were having fun playing on the pirate fort and trampoline at Rachel's house.

Joan hadn't seen or heard from Tumnus the deer for a long time and we all wondered if he survived the winter. Well Tumnus found Steven Davidovics as he was down clearing the creek. Steven took this short video of him. We are SO thrilled he survived and is still friendly. Tumnus was raised by the Reinhards. The family that found him in Dunlap left him hoping that his mom had placed him there until later but the next day Tumnus was in the same spot and becoming dehydrated. At that point they knew something had happened to his mother. They brought him to the Reinhards as they know they have a license to rescue wildlife.

We had a super Sunday and I am thrilled and thankful Tori's colt is fine. He is a beautiful colt.
