Harvesting Hay

Last night we needed to head to the far west of the property where part of the fence had been knocked down, probably by a deer running through. Below Mark is fixing the wire as the sun was getting low turning his white t shirt to pink.
I turned around and took the picture below of the barns glowing in the sunset.
The hay is on the ground not yet raked.  This morning we both worked outside fixing an electric fence and cleaning the shop.  Indy is finally showing and was covered by Evan. Sheena is very very sore on her front leg, the one that had been stuck in the slats of the trailer. Her back leg is healing well. She was given more bute and both wounds cleaned before sedating her and re-wrapping the back leg. Phil and Anna arrived with the girls this afternoon. We took the golf cart around and when we started heading up to the barn I saw this picture. That is Phil and Anna up on the barn roof working on the antenna.
Around noon Ryan Smith, our farmer called to say they were coming to rake, then send 2 balers to bale once their own fields were done. He asked how much hay I needed to buy from him and I asked for 48 bales. As soon as they were baled he had 30 hauled over. Mark and I worked together taking them off the trailers and stacking them in the barn.  The 2 balers didn't arrive until 6:00 pm tonight.
We were sure they would not finish both fields by sunset.

Glad to say I was wrong. They finished the last just as the sun was sinking low. Mark started moving bales off the field as soon as they were done with each section. We were able to get 22 bales of the 44 put away. The other 22 will need to be moved tomorrow after church.
There is no rain predicted so we did not feel we needed to work in the dark this time.  What a blessing to have enough hay for the winter. With Ryan's 48, our 44 and the 22 left from first cutting we have enough hay at this facility. We still need to buy around 75 bales for Middle Grove depending on how many we get off those fields. We like to have 100 here and around 120 at Middle Grove for the winter. We are both tired and filthy but such a good tired and the shower is going to feel wonderful.  Ryan is going to bring 18 more bales over on Monday.  We will sleep good tonight!
