From 2 to 3

We awoke to another day of winter wonderland. On our walk this morning big fat flakes of snow were drifting down quietly deadening all sound. Can you imagine how excited the kids would be if this was November. No one wants to see snow in April much less April 9th. almost a 3rd of the way into this month that is suppose to be showing us blooming flowers and bright green grass.

After our cold walk, I had to run to CEFCU to deposit some checks then to TEMCO to pick up the Berean mail for tomorrow.  This afternoon I stripped Marika stalls completely and sprayed it down with bleach water to prepare it for the next mare that foals.  It is just too wet and cold for Marika's colt to go outside as his cord is still wet and both Soul and Star are bagged up.  That meant I need 3 big stalls for tonight so worked on moving boards making  the 4 stalls on the right side of the barn into 2 foaling stalls, then freshly bedding those 2 plus the 1 on the left side that had just been sprayed down with bleach.   I was up on the ladder trying to change the direction of the foaling camera when Dan walked in. Was I ever glad to see him. He was able to drop the camera to where I can see most of the first stall.  If I'd had a bigger ladder we would have installed it high enough to see both of the foaling stalls on the right side but at least I can see one on the right and one on the left. When I finally finished with that big job, I moved a new round bale in for Lily, Lola and Rosalie.  That was a little tricky as no one was around to keep the mares from coming out of the paddock as I was driving the bale in. Grain buckets were placed at the far end and the mares called down there for grain while the tractor was driven in and the bale dumped in the feeder. After the tractor was put away, Galena and her colt now named April’s Chrome Drifter aka Drifter,  where moved back into the indoor arena. Drifter is old enough and his cord is dry that if the weather this April was like last April he would be outside by now but there are no more dry paddocks to put foals in. I have 2 at the cabin field and 3 in Ribbon's paddock. The rest are just too muddy for young foals.
Once the outside work was finished the inside work started. A pork loin was put in the oven for tonight's meal and tomorrow's Berean lunch and potatoes peeled and set on to boil to make mashed potatoes. Our dinner meal was finished out with gravy for the potatoes and asparagus for the vegetable.
After dinner Mark put two outdoor LED lights outside our patio door. It will be nice to have lights outside this summer.
The BIG news is Rhoda found a dog door big enough for Emma to get through and bought it!  Now we have to teach Emma how to USE it. They don't make doggy doors big enough for Mastiffs anymore so we were pleased. Of course that means Diane's dog Ebby,  Karin's dog Studly and Sarah's dog Kabur will be over INSIDE the house when they come visiting.
Star and Soul were brought inside this evening and the cameras are working well. Thankful for that!
