Dogs and Colors

Emma had another visitor this morning. Huey came for the day, Huey is an 16 year MinPin male dog blind in one eye, restricted vision in his other and his hearing is almost gone and yet Huey is loved.
His owners had to make a trip to Arizona and could not take Huey along. Sarah Reinhard is really in charge of Huey but she not coming back until tonight from Gulf shores. I offered to keep Huey for the day so she didn't have to come home early.
Does it seem this blog has become more about dogs than horses? Just for Karin's sake horses must be included today. Although I didn't even feed or check them today. Mark did the feeding for me while I dog watched.  The 3 weanlings here are all doing well. I'm amazed at how they tolerate this frigid weather. It was -11 this morning around 9:00 am. Mike went out to Middle Grove and had to work on the automatic waterer. The float was not working properly. He fixed it but none of the horses acted thirsty so it must have just happened. All the horses out there are doing great. We will be bringing in Galena, Anna, Ayanna, Rosalie, Jenis, Oksana, Indy and Zalena soon. We are all excited to see what Galena throws. Maybe we will get spots and maybe not but we have the best chance of a black and white foal out of her, with her 4 HIGH white stockings that are heavily feathered,
The double thick mostly white mane,
That long thick mostly white tail,
And her striking white markings
surely we will get spots right?
That's what we thought we would get when we bred Lola to Valiant
and instead the last 3 foals out of Lola by Valiant have been black with just a star.  Below is her 2014 colt by Valiant
Below is her 2016 filly by Valiant
Below is her 2017 filly by Valiant
Of course it looks like Lola also has those 4 high whites, mostly white mane and some white in her tail:
Valiant's genes are just too strong for Lola. Hopefully Galena has stronger genes than Lola but we will be thrilled no matter what she produces.
Lola is due April 6th and Galena is due April 9th.
The other mare we are excited to see what she produces is Madeira, the dark bay Andalusian mare. She inherited the mega hair from her black Andalusian sire:
Her mane is also double sided and thick.
Madeira isn't due until May 15th. Most of the other mares will obviously produce black. Foxy and Jewel can produce bay or black where Soul can produce black, bay or gray.  Thankful for these mares, they are all gifts from God.
