Clair's Filly
Phil came to pick Braelyn up just as I needed to load Clair and her filly into the trailer for their vet appointment. What perfect timing! We arrived just a few minutes before 2:00pm and it was bad news all around. Clair did get pregnant but is losing the foal. The ultrasound showed a spot as if a pregnancy but no embryo in the fluid. The filly didn't just need her hock flushed, the infection has traveled to both stifles. That poor filly was on the operating table today from 2:30pm to 5:30pm. She is really sore tonight. This is actually her last chance, if it hits any other joints Dr. Hoerr is recommending she be put down. Right now she has a great prognosis, every joint that turned septic was caught and flushed in time. On the long drive home from the vet clinic was time spent in prayer for her. She has come so far and has such a will to live. All of this because of an umbilical cord infection.
I didn't arrive home until after 6:00pm and had to get right back in the driver's seat to drive to Rhoda's apartment and pick up the muzzle for Emma then to Tremont. We decided to try one more time, she was showing all the signs of being willing to stand. Her date was waiting anxiously but it was again NO, NO, NO! She wants nothing to do with the male. She probably remembers how hard it was last summer trying to care for those 10 active always hungry pups. It was almost 10:00pm by the time we arrived home. Heidi met us at the door frantic to get inside away from the ongoing fireworks. She will spend the night with us as mom is gone. The travelers heading to the gulf coast made it to the fellowship area in Tennessee and will spend the night there. The mares were put out and fed, the stalls cleaned and now we are heading to bed.
