Labor Day started a little early. Somehow around 4:00 am I jammed my thumb into my eyebrow, gouged out a small chunk and started bleeding. What a crazy thing to happen. I didn't fall back asleep but kept watching the clock and listening for the coffee pot to start. At 7:45 am I took the golf cart over to mom's to get ready for our day at Norris. Ruth sent a text that she was providing lunch so no food was packed. We arrived shortly after 9:00 am. Joan was at the fire getting ready to cook a big bass, the girls were getting ready to canoe over to the volcano to try to catch a catfish, Phil and Anna were getting ready to go sailing.
David, Israel and Elisabet had already left for home. We made ourselves comfortable in the shade of the motorhome awning borrowing one of Ruth's zero gravity chairs for mom. We enjoyed watching the sail boat glide over the water.Day to day operation of a Friesian breeding farm standing 2 Friesian stallions. Labor Day 2023
Mom was waiting for a taste of the freshly cooked fish and was wondering when Joan was going to bring it up. We were teasing her about being the queen. The girls brought some reeds up to keep grandma comfortable while Ruth fed her popcorn (we didn't have any grapes)
Hannah and Faith took the kayak exploring and came back with 42 alien eggs they found on the bottom of the lake. They claim they were golf balls.
At noon Ruth served us a delicous steak smothered in mushrooms and sautéed onions, with tomatoes out of her garden and a baked potato.
The girls ran out of bait and sent Braelyn back with the canoe to get more. They told us they caught 5 big cats, got them up on the dock then let them go. Four others were almost up on the dock before getting loose. Below they are coming in for lunch.
After lunch Joan took them on the sailboat back over to the other side of the lake.
After lunch Fedi was teaching Braelyn how to throw a knife. She was sticking it pretty good. Phil told her the real goal was to stick it into a piece of wood from a distance. They set up a log, backed away, Phil let the knife fly and sure enough it stuck right into the log. I didn't get the throw but got the reaction, check out Phil's victory arm signal. Braelyn is running to get the log.
She held it up to show everyone.
After lunch I went into the building with the broom to sweep up any thing that was dragged inside then made sure all the lights were out and the rooms cleaned. Ruth helped us pack up at 1:15 pm and we were home just before 2:00 pm. Below is a video of our morning at Norris.
I took the golf cart straight up to the 5th wheel to strip the bed and grab the towels then into the barn apartment to strip those beds. I started a load of laundry in the apartment then took 2 loads down to the house. It was really hot today so I was thankful for the air conditioning in the house and the apartment. Once the sheets were done the beds were made. At 7:00 pm the girls volley ball teams came to play.
The sun was setting when I started home on the golf cart so drove up to the field to snap a picture of the sun lighting up the back of the cloud.
We really loved being able to go to Norris one last time. We have so many wonderful memories of that place. I was talking to Rebekah tonight at volleyball and she summed it up perfectly, "it was sad to see how neglected it was but so much fun remembering the good times and glad the kids got to enjoy it" A big thank you Beth and Greg for giving us this last weekend.
