Christmas 2022

I didn't sleep well last night but still was up before 5:00 am. The roasts were taken out of the fridge and let sit for an hour before the next step of mixing up salt, pepper, rosemary and butter. A pound of butter was used to cover both of the roasts.

Once the roasts were at room temperature the oven was preheated to 500 degrees.  By the time the oven was ready the roasts were also ready to go in. They were left in at that temp for 20 minutes then the oven turned off and the oven door left shut.  The rest of the morning was pretty low key. Mark had a fire going and it was perfect for warming up the toes this morning.
Mark fed the cat then checked all the waterers and they were all open. We left for church at 9:10 am.  Joan brought Nancy who was going to sit with me. Ruth sat with mom so Joan could sit with her kids. Sarah and Nolan brought Zion, Eden and River and they sat with me, Nancy and Mark on the bench behind mom and Ruth.  Gregg Rumbold had the Christmas message with the follow-up by Rick Kaisner. The 3 little girls did better than expected.  After church I ran over to mom's to set the tables.
We put out 2 card tables and had 12 at the big table then set up for the 11 kids coming on the downstairs table. Once that was done I went home to start the meal. 10 pounds of potatoes were peeled and set to boiling. The roast was turned on for 1 hour at 3:25 degrees from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm. At 2:30 pm it was taken out and left to set for 20 minutes before I started slicking. It turned out perfect. The green beans were brought to a boil and the salad was put together while that was cooking. David arrived a little after 3:00 pm and helped get all the food over to mom's. People started arriving and soon we had a house full.
Spark and Nancy had to play the chair game where Spark tries to sit in Nancy's chair. She wasn't going to let him on it tonight.

David had the prayer.

Dinner was delicious.
No pictures of the kids eating downstairs but everyone had plenty and there was enough to send home left overs for who ever wanted some.  After dinner we visited and played games. The adults upstairs and the children downstairs. Below is a short video of the evening. I really was too busy to take many pictures.
Mom was ready for bed and Nancy needed to go home so Joan gave Nancy her pills and got her ready to go while I helped mom get to bed. Mom told me, "make sure to tell everyone Merry Christmas!" Nancy loved looking at the Christmas lights on the way home.  It really was a full day of family feasting and fun. I'm so thankful for this special day. The day we celebrate the birth of Jesus.
