After chugging down a couple cups of coffee I started browning the 8 pounds of hamburger for tonight's haystack meal. That was put in the crock pot with the taco seasoning and put on low before heading out to feed the colt. The buck was back this morning only this time on our drive. We had to slow down as we were leaving for church while he walked into the woods. He is a little wary but not scared of the car so we think it must be Tumnus. We had another good day in church. I am very thankful for our wonderful church family. Tim Roecker had the morning message and Tim Funk had the afternoon message. Today is our 45th anniversary so we stopped at Dollar General on the way home so Mark could pick out a card. I told him he didn't have to buy it, he could just show it to me but he insisted on buying it anyway and then wrote a very nice note inside. This one is a keeper. Marli sent a message that she had 4 dozen eggs so we stopped at her house on the way home and picked those up. They will come in handy as I'm serving breakfast for 40 on Wednesday morning for Indian camp. Mike came today and put new valves and floats on 2 of the waterers to stop them from leaking. He brought over his strong fly spray and sprayed down both of the stallions. Tomorrow morning I'll need to borrow some of his to add to mine as my fly spray isn't working as well. As soon as we walked in the door I started on tonight's dinner, making two pans of brownies, shredding the lettuce, washing and cutting up the peppers, peeling and slicing the onions and then making a big pot of rice. Below are the ingredients (minus the rice) for the haystacks. This is just such a colorful meal and also tastes as good as it looks.
Sarah and Nolan's family were the first to arrive. Nolan needed a hair cut so Sarah went right to work.
Phil, Braelyn and Kensley were next. Anna and Taegan were on their way to Iowa for Bible camp for Taegan so they didn't make it. Kensley is so good about playing with Zion, Eden and River.
The rest of the family arrived about 4:30 pm. Rhoda and Lee brought 3 extra's tonight, Caleb, Rebecca and Mike. We were teasing them about actually having friends. Caleb piped right up about how they were paid to come. Of course we all laughed.
At 4:00 pm the peppers were sautéed with olive oil then the onions were done next. Nolan cut up the avocados just before the prayer. We had to eat in shifts tonight and sent all the kids upstairs to play until the adults finished then called them down for dinner. After everyone ate we all headed over to the playground. It was hot and humid so the kids headed right down to the lake.
Caleb brought his fishing pole so took off in the canoe and caught some fat bluegills, a couple of crappies and a few big bass.
I headed up to watch Zeke and River so their mom's could play volley ball. Both were happy to stay and play with grandma. When the kids got tired of swimming they came up to pick mulberries and had a good time eating them. They also wanted to play with Zeke. It was so hot that we had to sit in the shade with a fan to stay cool. Mike and Diane had their family over and after they ate they all came over to the playground but it was after the games and most of the players had left. They visited a bit before heading back. At 8:30 I needed to head home to feed Soul's colt. Tomorrow I will need to call the feed store and order another couple of bags of Mare Milk Replacer. He is doing very well on it and growing like a weed. He is now 2 months old and at 3 months we can start cutting the milk and adding more grain.
