Aching Bones

It was pretty dark when caring for the weanlings this morning but on the way over to mom's the sky was red.

Seeing that of course my mind goes to the saying red sky in the morning sailors warning.  We didn't get a storm today but the weather was really chilly and damp. No rain and the sun came out a bit late this afternoon. I drove down to the Peoria post office to pick up the Berean mail then over to Pekin, IL to shop at Aldi. They had butterball turkeys for $1.39 a pound so I bought 2 one at 21 pounds and one at 20.8 pounds.  In past years we were able to buy turkeys at 69 cents a pound but after hearing on the news that there is a shortage of turkeys I decided to just spend the money. I ended up spending $175.00 at ALDI! Yet the white house is claiming there is little inflation and the 3 trillion dollar spending plan will help with what little there is. Are they CRAZY?  Each time I go grocery shopping I get sticker shock. As soon as I got home and the groceries were unloaded the turkeys were taken over to Joan's freezer and I brought back 2 of her cookie sheets for the next job which was baking.  A double batch of cookies were baked and 2 batches of rice crispy treats were made and both were finished by 1:00 pm.
Most of this will be used for Wednesday evening and a few for the Berean treat tomorrow.  I was just cleaning up when Joan sent a text that the nurse was on the way. Mom had a very active morning. It really helped that she slept all night not waking until 6:00 am.  This was the first FULL night sleep since she went into the hospital. Speaking of the hospital her bill came today and that was over $100,000.00. Medicare and Humana paid all but $1700.00 which is what mom will have to pay. The nurse checked her over and was pleased with mom's progress.  When Mark got home we went right to work fixing a broken fence in the far paddock, got that finished then put Rockaway and Kincade in there so they can be grained easier. They finished their grain and insisted on going back with Morgana and Dahlia and knocked down another board on their way over.  We were in the indoor arena winterizing the last trailer and then started on the motorhome finishing that after 4:00 pm when I noticed the 4 weanlings were back together. Before Mark could head to the house we checked out the paddock and went back to work fixing fences. When all was secure the 2 weanlings in the stalls were moved into that paddock. Sterling (Jewel's colt by Evan) is wearing the green halter and Spirit (Rosaleigh's colt by Evan) is wearing the gray halter.

They checked everything out then called a couple times then settled down to eat. I pulled a quart of chili out of the freezer and heated that up for our supper then headed over to mom's house. Amy had just arrived to take the evening shift.  Joan and her kids were there along with Ruth and mom and all were eating soup from Rosvita and Gerald. After supper Joan took her kids home, Ruth went home to be with Fedi and Amy and I stayed to get mom ready for bed. We tried to get the television on so mom could watch wheel of fortune but couldn't get it to work. Diane came over to show us how but she couldn't get it to work either. We finally gave up on watching. Diane showed us how to get mom's phone to read the Bible out loud so mom settled down listening to that. Amy is staying until Joan comes to take her place. I've turned on my electric blanket and am now heading to bed. The cold causes these old bones to ache.
