Pictures For Owners

Ruth and I walked the first round, then mom joined us while we did Diane's lane and back. She continues to improve and that makes us all relieved. We have had no rain and no rain is predicted for the next week. Today was the day the weanlings were going to be let out of the stalls and put in a paddock but first each one needed to be taken to the round pen to get updated pictures for their owners. The first colt out was Prins Alexander, Lily's colt by Valiant. I've been working on picking up hooves and leading them around in the stalls and even in the aisle but had not yet taken them outside the barn. I was pleased how he listened and not even once tried to run ahead of me. He was so funny with the tarp. The tarp was hung over the round pen rail and each time the wind blew it would bellow out. He just had to carefully creep up on it and check this strange thing out.

He finally got brave enough to touch it then when I pulled it off the rail and started dragging it around the arena was curious enough to follow and then step on it.

We love brave horses. He has very nice movement and it was easy to get pictures of him with all 4 hooves off the ground with his trot.

Next out was Odin, Oksana's colt by Evan. He also led well. He was ignoring the tarp until the wind blew. 

 I didn't pull it off and drag it round be he checked it out pretty well.

 He too has amazing movement but then he IS Evan's son.

Otto was last, he was pretty upset about being the only colt left in the barn while the other two were out and had dumped his water bucket. He didn't lead as well but I was thankful he didn't try to run over me, just wasn't sure if he really should be going out to the round pen and when we got to the round pen he didn't want to walk inside.  That took a few minutes but he was even more impressive as he saw the tarp blowing and took off at a gallop around the round pen with his tail in the air.

 He is another fancy mover!

By the time all 3 were out there they were happily checking everything out while staying close to each other. They were in order in the picture below from youngest to oldest. 

 Lily's colt is in front of Oksana's colt and Indy's colt is behind.

 They all decided to get a drink of water at the same time.

Some grain was put in each bucket and instead of each foal eating out of a bucket all 3 would try to eat out of a single bucket. 

 We aren't too far from the Peoria airport and when this big jet went overhead all the foals just ignored it. 

Rhonda dropped off some beef liver while I was up at the barn. That was taken out of the freezer and defrosted and cooked for our supper. It was the best liver and onions I've had since Lum's on Western in Peoria closed maybe 30-40 years ago. Tender, cooked perfectly and smothered in onions! After supper the stalls were all stripped and the aisles swept. The owners of the colts were all sent the pictures. The registration papers came today for 6 of the foals and the coggins are back for the colts so they are all ready to be picked up.
