Herds of Deer and Horses

This social distancing thing that is dragging on and on because of the Corona virus scare is making me miss my grandchildren so much that I had to borrow a 'grand puppy'. Pax is spending a couple weeks with us and by the end of each day he is so worn out he sleeps. Today he went on the walk, helped Mark dig sour dock out of the fields by keeping all the rabbits away, helped me move a round bale in the cabin field by making sure all the rabbits or squirrels were far away from the tractor, helped bring in the mares and foals (and got yelled at for barking at the babies) and even helped water the flowers. I think it must be his watering that make the daffodils so brightly yellow. The picture below is right before he watered them, first he had to smell them and then lifted his leg.

They really are a bright spot during this time of quarantine.

He and Emma were relaxing in the yard when they saw me go out to take the pictures of the flowers and of course he has to come running.

Mom was able to use her new walker and walked all the way to Diane's house and then the barn to check out Oksana's day old colt. It was cold enough this morning for winter jackets.

Karin arrived to work with Cookie and offered to go with me to Middle Grove to bring home Sally and Missy. While she was working with Cookie I cleaned out the automatic waterer at the cabin field then moved a bale over. We left for Middle Grove around 10:00 am. Today we had a surprise waiting when we reached the top of the hill. I thought at first it was horses galloping but when we got a little closer it was a herd of deer bounding across the field in single file. This herd went on for a few minutes. There must have been around 40 or more. I didn't start snapping pictures until we were up by the horses.

Mika was watching them.

 Jenis was ignoring them.

 Sangria was watching also.

It seems there are more deer at Middle Grove than there are horses. I was able to check out all of the horses and got pictures today. Lola will be brought back here when she starts to wax.  My next job was to get a few updated pictures of both of the colts. This was the first time Oksana's day old colt was taken out of the barn. He had to taste the grass and below is his reaction. He is much to young for that taste. 

He really is silver.

Indy's colt will be 3 weeks old tomorrow and did he ever have fun in the field.

He is such a show-off. He isn't as friendly as Oksana's colt but that will change when he realized people give good scratches. If interested in seeing the rest of the pictures of these two colts click HERE.  

Mark used the skid steer to clean up the fenceline brush, keeping the trees from growing into the fence. Yesterday he used the big saw attachment to clean up down by the lake and now we can fish most of the shoreline. That skidsteer is an amazing machine. Supper tonight was shrimp stir fry with red and yellow peppers, orange carrots, light green celery, dark green spinach, mushrooms and shrimp. It was very colorful and delicious. After supper Mark went to Casey's to buy more diesel fuel.
