We had a cold morning and this gave us the push we needed to get the living room wood burner pipes cleaned out and ready. Mark bought a 6 inch cleaner brush then borrowed the chimney pipes from Joan which the cleaner brush attaches to and by the time the walk was ready to begin we had that wood burner all cleaned out and ready for fires. After the walk he worked on the fireplace, using the brush to get rid of any built up creosote last year fires left. With 2 working wood burners this small house should surely stay warm enough. We only reached a high of 37 degrees today but the below freezing temperatures will be happening tonight and then all of this next week with the lows in the teens and the highs in the low 30s. We also have snow expected Thursday night.
I spent the morning getting the apartment ready for guests. I had everything done except scrubbing the floors when Rhoda and Sarah arrived with their daughters. As soon as Iris was sleeping Rhoda went out to work with Lisa while Sarah stayed in to listen for Iris and watch Zion.
Lisa did very well for Rhoda but after about 20 minutes Mark came up to say, "Rhoda your time is up, Iris is crying, Sarah is holding her and Zion is getting into the garbage." I ran down to the house to help Sarah while Rhoda put Lisa away. Anna also came over to help bringing Kensley. Kensley and Zion had fun playing together.
Iris was glad her mama came to rescue her and was a happy baby for at least a couple hours.
Anna had to be back by 4:00 pm to get the other girls off the bus. Rhoda and Sarah also had to leave. The sun was shining on the last two leaves hanging on for dear life to the Japenese Maple tree, and those two bright red leaves looked pretty sad.
Today we moved bales out of the way so the manure spreader could be moved out of the barn. Mark worked on winterizing the camping trailer and tomorrow we will move that into the barn. The manure spreader will be moved to the back of the barn and covered. Valiant and Galena got a new bale as long as I had the tractor out. Karin came after she got off work to ride Valiant and Galena. No pictures, the wind was blowing much to cold for me to stay up at the barn today. Karin reported that Valiant is doing perfect walk to canter departs, side passing in the trot and is so much fun to ride. Galena also did well.
Mark drove mom and I to church tonight. Craig Stickling had the message on Hope. After church we removed all of the hoses from the hydrants and put the pressure washer inside the stall barn and shut those doors. Mark still wants to pressure wash the skid steer before snow hits then the pressure washer will be put in the basement for the winter. Winter sure takes a lot of preparations and this year seems to be arriving extra fast.
